I just came back from a 3 week trip to Iraq & survived a 30 rocket barrage, developed PTSD of loud noises (which thankfully I haven't heard any recently). The purpose of this trip was to check out a unit that we will be replacing in the near future. Now I come home to something between the walking dead and The Stand. I am self-quarantineing in my RV in the storage lot that its parked cause my wife doesnt want me coming home (and I really dont blame her either - we have 2 tweens).
So yea... March has been a wild month for me. Now I sit in my RV "teleworking" - which means answering emails balancing the use of fossil fuels between keeping warm and not having to go out into the general populace and risk exposure, while rationing my food.

prepare yourself mentally for them to not let you retire. They are already trying to pull folks in that are already retired. It going to be in interesting next couple of years for sure.
Also, don't mess with the PTSD stuff. You can get telecare with the Wizards online from your RV.

I honestly used to think PTSD was a joke. But after talking to so many other people on that particular FOB who went through the same attack, its pretty understandable. No more slamming doors, dropping kevlars or body armor on the floor. Like hell they wont let me retire. I will have had 25 years in and two tours by then. I have done my time.

I retired from the USAF after 20 years back in 1997. You've done your time so it is 'your' time to retire and find a civilian job so you can collect two incomes. By the way if you have had any surgeries or physical damage to your body apply for a disability. I have a 10 percent disability and that amount is not taxed.

Thank you for everything you've done! It must suck to come home and quarantine, but that shows just how strong and smart you are.
As someone with (non-military related) PTSD and studying in the field of psychology, please attempt to address it as soon as you can with the right person/people.

I believe 25 years is about 60-70 percent pension for the military. That should do nicely when you retire.

You probably already know this, but ...
Recommend you get a full pre-retirement checkup from the military side before you leave the service ... and get a complete copy of your medical records. I sat down with my VA rep before I retired in 2011, and got the disability process going.

Trying to put a positive spin on it: with everyone on lock down, noise is at a minimum, so that's good for you. It's quite surreal here in NYC, I'm so used to the 24/7 constant hum of the city and the blaring of car horns and sirens and people yelling (and the occasional gun shot), yet now I can sit here with my window open and hear nothing but a slight breeze.. love it!
Thank you for your service - 25 years is a huge achievement. My dad retired after 25 years service as well - USN aviator - LCDR.

Sadly yes, I am an O. (but I have 10 years enlisted... so dont begrudge me yet :)
I am too old to be a tunnel rat thankfully, but man retirement can't come quick enough. Then that sweet sweet VA claim...
So I have around 40 some-odd days until I Mob. Going to get a gaming laptop to bring with. I would say "spare no expense" gaming laptop... but I am married with kids, so I would like to keep the budget around 1500-1700 give or take. Any recommendations?
