i have a RTX 2080 TI FTW with a nice set of fans in my case and a ML360A WC, so it's not cooling problem.

I think My GPU temps are ok, because i'm running full load at 144FPS cap, when i limit it to 60fps thermal doesn't get higher then 50º-60º
But the memory runs at 83ºc, is it even normal for memory??

Cooling and temps attached.

One is for the agressive fan profile, which runs at 74% fan speed. 83ºc
The other one is set to run at 90% fan speed when it reaches 66º, so the memory runs at 78º which is 5º less but still hot.

The memory seems to run warm on all the rtx cards, it seems to me 95c or so is where the GDDR6 memory is supposed to start performance issues at. However all the fans are run from different sensors so even setting your own fan curve or just setting the fans to manual and setting them all higher during games should keep the temps cooler for you.

I always thought this was because the cooler concentrates mostly on cooling the GPU chip, therefore the memory/VRMs are cooled but not as well and run hotter as a result.

No, the 3 fans on the 2080ti ftw models are all controlled separate, one for the die, one for the memory, and one for the pwm/vrm. They all run on different sensors and therefore each fan can run at a different speed.  In PX1 if you click the little link by the fans it will then lock all fans together and when setting to manual they will all run at the same speeds.  If you don't link them together you might put the fan 1 or fan 2 at 100% but the others won't be they will still be running off of the sensors and running at like only 50% or so.

Yes I know this, but the cooler/heatpipes mainly draw heat away from the GPU core and the memory is cooler (through thermal pads) using a separate heat plate. You can see this by watching a tear down video of the cards.

yeah, i'm on all liquid now but when i had the ftw3 cards i just maxed all fans at 100% during gaming and let it go.

83c is well within operating temperature of the GDDR6 memory on your card.

85%-90% is the maximum i've raised so far,  100% is much louder for 10% speed gain. but as i said, helps a lot decreasing 4-5ºc overall mem temp compared to the Agressive profile in x1.

I thought my card had some cooling issue, was thinking in take apart the heatsink and reapplying thermal paste/pads.

No actually mid 80's C is somewhat typical for GDDR6 operating temperature on an air cooled card. Sure it could be lower but that can imply differing variables like air flow in your case, ambient temperature, fan speed....etc. From what you've said and what I can see, your card is operating normally.

Bit of insight for you to help you understand what you're looking at here.

The reason the temps vary like this is because in the picture, the memory closer to the right side of the card is closer to the VRM which generates quite a bit of heat itself as this is what's delivering power to your GPU core. There are traces under the memory modules in the PCB that are carrying current to the GPU die this compounds with the heat also being generated from the GDDR6 memory and further increases temps. The memory on the left side temps are lower because it's further away from the VRM and isn't impacted by it.

GDDR6 has a operating temp max of 95C and really anything in the 80-90C range is fine for the life of the card. Hell, even at 95C itself the memory should be good for the life of the card as that's what it's rated at. Having said that of course you don't want to run it at 95C if you can help it. 83C however is perfectly fine and isn't at risk of damaging anything.

That's really interesting to know, always wondered why one section of memory is warmer than others. Thanks.
