All my asus MBs in the past came with a fan tuning utility to use in windows. I was looking at available software for my X299 Dark in the EVGA download center but there doesn't seem to be such a utility. It seems the only software they make for fan control is specific to their DG Cases and one can only download it if they bought a DG case. Would be nice if EVGA made fan control software for general evga mb owners.

Anyone have any recommendations for fan control utility software?

Re: No Fan Control utility software for evga motherboards? 2020/03/26 07:17:20 (permalink)
Hi Guys,

I have a question that sort of relates to this subject on my X299 Dark. I may be being a bit thick so please be gentle.

I have a dual circuit water-cooling setup where I want to control the radiator fans on each circuit separately through the BIOS. I have the separate pumps running at 85% of max on the chassis fan and system fan headers which is constant. As I wanted.

The CPU side is easy, I have the temp/power curve set and the fans increase and decrease with the CPU temp....., perfect.

The issue I have is.......  there is no option for me to control the GPU circuit fans as there is no GPU temp option on the board. Or am I missing something??

At the moment I have both circuits (radiator fans) controlled by the CPU1 & CPU2 headers which is OK when just generally messing about and browsing etc. everything sits at about 30 degrees. However, when I start gaming the CPU temp doesn't get above 35 degrees but because the GPU's are working harder they start rising above 40 degrees, which is when i want the fans to start ramping up but they obviously don't.

I am a little confused as to why all software can see the GPU temps but the motherboard BIOS doesn't allow you reference it to use as a control.

Unless I'm missing something that can be done as an obvious alternative, can EVGA answer if there could be a BIOS update to cover this little issue or explain what I can do to automatically control the GPU circuit fans through the BIOS?

Any suggestions or help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in Advance

Nice rig startekselva,

I got something similar to Aquaero unit you mentioned, I got a Thermaltake Commander but I didn't read the spec properly, only to find out that it was manual adjustment which works on volts output and therefore incompatible with the 2 fan hubs I have that are both PWM. Very frustrating to say that they are both made by Thermaltake. I looked at a few others and found they were similar so I assumed that they were all the same.

If no other suggestions come up where a BIOS alternative can be set up I will look at getting one. Would I be correct in saying that they can be set to control the fans automatically?

Cheers

They have the QUADRO and OCTO that cost less and can do most of the things an Aquaero can do.  The only caveat is it only works with PWM.

Use this Associate Code at your checkouts or follow these instructions for Up to 10% OFF on all your EVGA purchases:

While speedfan is a decent bandaid, I found this disappointing, EVGA makes great hardware but the software is quite lacking vs my ASUS boards (even if their installers are buggy AF).

I bought this board for my wife's video editing rig and repurposed it for my 10920x (gave her my 9900k as a big upgrade vs her 7820x) and the software is laughably bad :(

CaseLabs SM5 mATX, Intel 10920X @ 5.0Ghz (Watercool Heatkiller IV black copper), EVGA X299 Micro, 64GB (4x16GB) G.Skill 3200Mhz CL14, Founders 2080Ti (Watercool Heatkiller IV Acrylic Nickel), 2x HW Labs GTS radiators, Watercool Tube + D5 pump/res. Lucky to leave near ModMyMods, using their ModWater Clear!

Yeah, I cant quite believe that such a high end manufacturer hasn't considered the high end enthusiast and given the option to use GPU temp as a control in the BIOS, particularly when you think about the target market for these boards and the techies who are going to be buying them.

Was it not thought about or just missed??

Agreed. I came here just to see if anything has changed. As a LONG time EVGA customer it boggles my mind that they don't do things as simple as fan control for their motherboards. My EVGA graphics cards all have an EVGA tool to create fan profiles; why not the Mobo's??? Literally every single one of EVGA's competitors offers this SIMPLE but necessary tool.

HUGE oversight on their part for a very long time and one of the reasons I don't purchase EVGA Mobo's for builds anymore. I build/use high-end media editing and racing simulation systems for myself and others and it's truly a shame, and their loss that I don't even consider EVGA anymore for Mobo solutions. Crazy; stupid; asenine!

And for those who ask "why not just use the BIOS adjustments?" - that's impractical for these applications. Who wants to sit in a noise-sensitive environment and try to listen/think/simply exist over invariably inappropriately loud fan noise, especially when it's completely unnecessary between BIOS adjusting reboots? Not me and certainly not my customers. I still love your P/Ss and GPUs but - Oh well...  (Are you listening yet, EVGA??)

I also turned to EVGA on this topic. The answer is there is no such function and that's it.
It is very inconvenient that it is impossible to adjust the fan speed without rebooting.
The SpeedFan program does not see half of the fan connectors on the EVGA Dark.
Such inconveniences lead to the desire to consider boards from other manufacturers: Asus, Asrock.

Please don't ask too much from a manufacturer that took 500 bucks from you for a unfinalized motherboard with limited featureset.

(no Wifi, no 10Gbit Lan, no Thunderbolt, no redesign for Cascade Lake X, no Loadline Calibration Levels, no SVID Support)

yesterday i have tested OC with a 10900X for a few hours with adaptive VC, ended again where it always ends, tried to use per Core VC and the DARK fails.

And yes i accidentially started EleetX, ending up with a BS with usually stable settings loaded by UEFI.

This, and a few other reasons,is why i use a Lamptron to control all my fans. I dont have to worry about software hiccups/conflicts with windows, dont have to reboot to a bios, can change fan speeds on the fly in games or other software as needed if it warrants it, keeps third partys out of my pc registry, etc... You can even hook up your gpu fans to it or any other fans. I really dont know why more people dont do it, the headaches it saves are great.

Personally, I connect all my Chassis and radiator fans directly to the PSU; 100% 24/7. After getting used to the noise a while, it is sort of a soothing white noise.

Performance is what matters.

I don't understand why you deal with the headache of having to remember to turn knobs.  And the expense?  Why?  Automation is where it's at.  Automatic and infinitely adjustable.  PWM is amazing and doesn't require the expense or effort of an additional fan controller.  If EVGA could ever release a product with decent software and firmware, maybe you would someday see the light.
