I'm currently shopping out ram for this board, seeking 4x8GB DIMM sets since my old DRR4 3200 Corsair Vengeance ain't cutting it with the 9900K IMC, what is the highest compatible ram that works with this board to achieve 5GHz? I don't really want to go with anything less than say 3600. The issue I have is the fact that G.Skill has some awfully good ram however, EVGA lists it on their QVL but G.Skill does not, so I need to hear from those who are using the highest speed stuff with success, thanks and Ill list what I'm looking at for reference...

G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 32GB (4 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3600

G.SKILL TridentZ RGB Series 32GB (4 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3733

G.SKILL TridentZ Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 4133

Yeah that's really wonky, I'd say to go with one of the tight 3600 16-16-16-36 b-die kits on the g.skill QVL and yolo it, might need to tune it but it stands a good chance of running at XMP.

I cannot help with the real high speed ram but I can tell you what I have going on. Z390 FTW, 9900K @ 5.2 GHz, G-Skill 2X 8GB 3200 (F4-3200C14D-16GTZSK) running at 3333MHz 14-14-14-34 at stock voltage. I have no problem hitting 5.2 on GHz on CPU with this ram. I can only say that it runs but cannot verify it is the best option. Hope you get it sorted.

that's pretty cool that you're able to get that decent clock out of that ram, nicely done.

that appears to be a great candidate kevin thank you for this.

btw has anyone noticed the fact that EVGA Eleet identifies the 9900K as a Kaby Lake cpu?

I got to thinking after reading thru k|ngp|n's thread here,

https://forums.evga.com/m..aspx?m=2913749&fp=1

I have a chance to step up to the 390 Dark, I'm guessing in the long run this would better running the 9900K as well as a host of more options for ram, thoughts?

2 DIMM slots is going to limit your RAM options if you need 32 GB and something on the QVL.

That being said, something that is not on the QVL does not mean it won't work, only that it was not tested.

I recommend this, its Samsung B-die, Im using it at 4400 cl18, on my Z390 Dark with my 9900k at 5.1 daily. Ive pushed the ram up to 4800 at CL19, during benchmarks.

Interesting kit and a really good price. Not that long ago it would have been twice as much. I grabbed one from Newegg...got to love that no RGB.

Thanks guys, after much research and dialogue with G.Skill, I've decided to go with the G.Skill recommended kit below:

https://www.gskill.com/pr...6-36-1.35V32GB-(4x8GB)

I truly believe that with further BIOS revs that things can only get better but for now this 3600 stuff which G.Skill tested quite thoroughly will be ideal.

Sounds good, same as the white/silver kit I recommended above, which is now OOS.  I didn't see the black kit as being in stock at the time, but it may have been.  So if you really want it, I'd get it ordered immediately while it's still in stock.

Did they say anything about their testing of kits of above 3600 and why they aren't on their QVL?

kevin, G.Skill support said "We do, but motherboard may not be capable so it would serve your system no purpose:

https://www.newegg.com/p/...032gb&Order=PRICED

The memory kit you are looking at is ideal for that motherboard.

Thank you

That's low bin bdie, lower than 3200CL14, somewhat fast but loose, seems to sell for under $200 if you can get your hands on it.  Solid deal.

The other 4x8 kit is definitely better ram, fairly high end stuff actually and worth the $285 imho.

If you're not fussed about XMP or money you could just get the 4000CL19 2x16 and clock it best you can, that's what I upgraded to on my MSI board which is one of the few that can run it at XMP, and I was able to get a deal on over the holiday period.  3200CL14 2x16 is almost always a good choice too.

right, think I'll stick with that 4x8 kit for the near term and see what develops with further in-house testing BIOS revs etc. thanks for your insight kevin, it's been very helpful.

Hey happy to help, I'm certainly not an expert but recently did hours upon hours of research when troubleshooting my memory problem and then justifying an expensive upgrade.  Made the noob mistake of buying a motherboard with great 2x memory support and throwing 4x16 of non-QVL'd lower end memory on it.  Durr.  Was able to resell my old kits but took about a 50% loss due to the dip in ram prices.

That 4x8 is a very solid choice, likely the best 32gb kit for that board, glad to hear g.skill approves of it.

That 4x8 is a very solid choice, likely the best 32gb kit for that board, glad to hear g.skill approves of it

Just a quick FYI, I ordered the 4x8 kit as mentioned and G.Skill confirms it is Samsung b-die and I will have it up and running by Thurs eve.
