I had some time this week so I decided to put some spare GPUs to work!

And even more power...

We've had a very unexpected, and a super amazing, major increase in power last night due to a cloud computing company donating a major amount of GPUs -- some of you might still be seeing the Core22 test project instead of the CoV ones, I apologize, with the current demand the servers are rather slow in making the extra copies of the CoV projects, but this should be resolved by tomorrow (well, except if we get another unexpected major donation.. :) ).

Yeah he and I are talking about how cool that is right now.  But they need more assignment horsepower now for putting out Covid research.  They are being taken faster than they can issue them.

Looking at the Server Stats I noticed that Rafal has been busy bringing a second WorkServer online (140.163.4.231) with new Core22 projects P11747-52 (the current WS with Coronavirus projects P11741-46 is 140.163.4.241).

It looks like they could use even more upload server capacity.  My output is limited by the slow DL rate for the GPU projects.  As a workaround, I've temporarily set the new GPU downloads to start when projects are at 90% completion.

I suppose that this will only work well until the project download servers are overloaded or the project upload servers get boosted some more.

Not getting any units from .231   Any way to fix that?

Ok just set mine to get at 90% also will see if it helps

I don't have any workaround for the .231 server issue from our end; it would probably have to be addressed by FAH admin.  Looks like they restarted 231 and 241 at 12:30 and 2:15 AM CST...maybe that will help.

It looks like there is a lot of increased activity on the Default team right now; hopefully its a sustained effort.

I downloaded from a different server paused by changing clinet to "advanced" downloaded a Wu and then paused it deleted the WU changed back to beta and unpaused it and I got a unit.

I think all teams are going up if they can get work units, look at the server stats there are not many core 21's out there all core 22 but the servers can't keep up.  https://apps.foldingathome.org/serverstats

I'm in the same painful spot, slow Up & down loads of the FAH files ... if I can even get a WU assigned

I just wish the download servers 140.163..4.231  would stop "helping" me ..... I'm loosing Hours of time across 10 GPU, last few days

[after 5 or 6 tries if the server does not Give work it Should release my system - Kick to the next server .... but Noooooooo ..... just sits there]

------------------------

After - Full system reboots [PCs, cable modem & Router] did Not fixing the issue ... cause its the Stanford server

I have it kind of sorted .... getting assigned to a different server, getting some work now

but Now I keep getting some "NASTY" core 21 WU - 14310 --> that are over 4 hr on water cooled 1080 Ti FTW3

I know it all helps - but dang 8 out of 10 GPUs are getting these suckers & not Core22 ?

PPD has taken a big drop ..... I'm Normally around 10 Million halfway through the day - today only - 3,549,481

Please do not do that sort of thing .... it is against the rules & will get you in trouble with the F @ Home group

Once you have downloaded a WU you should feel compelled to finish it ... as long as you can beat the due date

That is because there was a whole number of places like Newegg and a gaming website and others advertising people to start folding for the fight against COVID-19 and that is why it went up.

200 petaFLOPS  :-)   and Nvidia Volta V100 GPU

If they get a passkey ... just think of the PPD they can get with that puppy

I'm pretty sure Coreweave installed with a passkey.
6000 Volta V100 should be doing more like 12,000,000,000 PPD but factoring in "lack of work units" the last few days they seem to be in the right ballpark on what they ARE doing.

A lot of the existing teams are getting LESS work done though, but a few have gotten impressive.
Default of course has seen what I would guess to be TENS OF THOUSANDS of new folders (mostly on Anom).
PCMasterRace has added almost 15,000.
Coreweave has been a relatively SMALL addition in comparison.

F@H is seriously overloaded with folders at this point, they can't generate enough work units to keep up with the demand - which I hope changes for the better over the next few days.

Now that vorsholk has stopped his abuse, I'm returning to folding.
I no longer MOO due to abuses by certain "whales" in the Gridcoin community - so I now work the Distributed.net project directly again.

Yikes I wasted 2 days over a small configuration error. I changed to Client-Type Normal to test then I forgot to change it back yesterday. I am glad I realized it. I am getting WU again. I feel so foolish. But I started to get the 1174x again YAY. Folding for COVID again.

I am just letting it run without intervention anymore I tried a setting and forgot about it. Now I am folding again. I was wondering why I was not getting anything so I check and my logs and found out it said "nothing for this configuration" and saw what the problem is. Now I will leave it alone let it do its thing.

Pande Group really was not prepared for the influx of folders...    EVGA's daily average halved from a little over 400M to just 200M a day.

It's not Pande Group any more - they handed off FAH control to a group out of George Washington University in St. Louis months back.
I suspect Dr. Pande wanted to be able to retire fairly soon without shutting down the project.

I also suspect that NOBODY expected the influx of new folders to be so extreme - my guess is that the number of active folders has multiplied by a factor of AT LEAST 10, more likely 100, and I would not be shocked if we have close to 1000 TIMES as many people working on folding (with a somewhat smaller increase in RIG count) than we had 2 weeks ago.

Team Curecoin was down a lot from our previous performance yesterday as well - just under 300 Million PPD vs the normal a little over 500 Million 2+ weeks ago - due to lack of works units, and I personally note that I only had *ONE GPU* actively folding when I checked first thing this morning, out of a double digit number of them.
Having the client decide to wait for HOURS due to repeated "can't get a work unit" issues (I saw one at just under 4 hours "before next try" yesterday) has always been a bad design decision, but it's causing major issues right now in lost productivity.

Hopefully the folks that create the work units will get seriously ramped up soon - they seem to be getting a handle on the overloaded servers issue, but don't have enough work to issue TO those servers....

Now that vorsholk has stopped his abuse, I'm returning to folding.
I no longer MOO due to abuses by certain "whales" in the Gridcoin community - so I now work the Distributed.net project directly again.

They also need more bandwidth ... they cant handle the traffic

The "Folding at Home Group" are mostly research volunteers ... not a hard core Internet company ... their hardware is just plain lacking for the scale of volunteers they have attracted.

The Fix is simple:

1) Let FAH make their WU / projects & have the research

2) Let the Pro companies run the Server side .. they have both the Capacity in servers & the ISP bandwidth

Google, Microsoft, Amazon  ..... any major player --> All they have to do Is Ask for the Help with th CV-19 work ... I bet they would Jump @ the opportunity
