Another story about update disasters being reported.....

https://www.techradar.com/news/windows-10s-latest-update-fail-could-be-its-most-serious-yet

Update pulled
We also reported that the Windows 10 KB4524244 update was causing issues for users, and it’s now been pulled by Microsoft – so the update will no longer be automatically downloaded.

This update was causing issues with HP devices because of its Sure Start Secure Boot Key Protection.

This is yet another example of a faulty Windows 10 update, and Microsoft needs to act fast to fix these problems and ensure future updates are not affected.

Windows 10’s seemingly never-ending run of faulty updates is continuing to impact users, with reports emerging that Windows 10 KB4532693 is deleting files on some people’s PCs.

We’ve previously reported that KB4532693 was causing some serious issues for Windows 10 users, with people's Start menus and desktops reverting to their default states.

However, it seems that issue is even more serious than first thought, as it appears that it is deleting any files saved on the desktop as well.

Some people have been able to restore their files – it appears the update is renaming and moving their user profile – but it seems that many people have found they are unable to restore the files that were deleted.

While changing the user profile back to its default settings is annoying, if an update is faulty enough that it’s actually deleting users’ files, then this is very serious indeed.

We don’t know how widespread this issue is, with Windows Latest quoting several users on Microsoft’s forums, and Microsoft itself has yet to comment. Hopefully this is cleaned up quickly.

Yeah I saw that, right after I updated to it.  Immediately yanked it just in case since the update itself has been pulled.

Glad I saw your post, I didn't even catch the 2693 one in Steve's post originally.  I had seen the 4244 issue in an article in my Google feed already.  Removed 2693 at lunch (hadn't seen any issues yet though) and set my update delay for routine updates to be 14 days up from 3 since that apparently wasn't long enough for the reports of problems to show up.

That sucks.  One reason I'm glad I managed to get Win10 Pro.  I can "snooze" updates for quite a while to give them time to fix/pull/etc.

I wasn't personally having any problems, but I only had them installed for a day or so.  I can deal with things like weird start menu behavior etc, but deleting files I'm not taking any chances on that.

Same. No issues, but not willing to take a chance when it's so easy to avoid.

I haven't had any issues with the updates.  To be safe, I uninstalled the first fine...second one...I didn't have to uninstall...so no issue with it back.

Ok so I downloaded a update.  Forgot which one but it was the only one in Win Update.  All hell broke loose when I restarted.

- My M.2 game drive all of a sudden wasn't being recognized so I decided to restart the rig.
- My PC got stuck in the BIOS screen and wouldn't boot past it while the keboard was not locked which I thought was odd.
- Hard restarts, shut PSU off, drain power, etc.  Nothing.
- Checksum error
- Special red button putting everything on default did the trick.
- Put back OC profile in the BIOS and we're back.
- Pls don't do that again.

That's why I have "Metered connection" turned on (so Windows don't auto-download/install stuff) and the "Show or hide updates" troubleshooter package (wushowhide.diagcab) to check for/hide indefinately/show Windows updates, so I can wait until the "Testers" tell me if there's any issues.

I hid KB4540673 from the normal Windows Update this morning so that it won't even show up unless I "unhide" it..I'll still wait a little while longer.

Wondering if that's an update that can be uninstalled or not..Some can't be and a System Restore would be in order.

lots of problems with it. You can check around a dozen tech sites for all new issues again.

The end of February update that Microsoft shipped on their Windows 10 operating systems faced numerous issues, some are even unidentified.

KB4535996 is the Windows update in question. It is meant to fix a lot of concerns on the OS including printing, battery, and the search function. The update, however, caused more problems than what it is intended to solve, leaving Microsoft to suggest that uninstalling the update is the best option.

Known Glitches and Errors
Windows 10 1909 and 1903 users, in particular, are those who raised their concerns through online forums and help centers.

Users experienced a lot of errors, for instance, boot issues that aren't new to some users. Audio issues have been also reported as well as frequent crashes

The developer tools seem to have taken a hit as well, as some people reported that it's not working.

Microsoft's Response
It is known to some that these issues are indeed big, but Microsoft is yet to announce a fix and even acknowledge the problems made by the update.

They have at least did something, a suggestion to one user that the current remedy for these crashes and errors should be an uninstall of the update.

Severe Errors
Online forums and technical boards aren't new to complain about severe errors. However, in this particular topic, a Windows 10 user reported that his desktop computer stopped working, and even refuses to boot up.

According to him, it was when he installed the update that his computer suffered a bootup failure. He also added that his desktop has failed a BIOS POST test, his monitor also just gives him a blank screen.

The user who posted the complaint stated that his desktop is very new, in fact, he just bought it 5 days ago before the error and desktop failure.

The update's damages don't just stop here as a user who installed the latest update on an organization is currently seeing a total of 200 computers that suffer from BSOD. The BSOD isn't always the case as some of the computers suffer from frequent crashes and won't even boot up.

Other errors have surfaced more than the errors reported above. Some users reported that the update made it impossible to enter the safe mode.

Visual Studio has also taken some hit with this update. Users commented that the sign tool, of all things, isn't functional.

Despite being bombarded by complaints after complaints, Microsoft is still silent and has been only seen responding to several users, including one with the problem with the Visual Studio.

According to Microsoft, they are well-aware that the KB4535996 update caused several errors on Visual Studio.

They have then instructed people who have to face these errors to uninstall the update immediately to avoid more errors and glitches.

Possible Fixes
The obvious fix as of the moment for computers who suffered errors and crashes is to uninstall. Those who haven't installed the update yet should hold on and wait for Microsoft's official statement. The KB4535996 update is also only optional, meaning that not all Windows 10 users should install it.
