My OC Bios isn't working anymore.(?) I had been using the OC bios for weeks now because I liked that it kept the vrm fan from turning off completely. I hate how the normal bios is always turning it off and on.
I had read in several places that the only difference between the normal and oc bios was the fan curve, but I had an itch for testing. So I powered everything down and switched over to the normal bios. It all worked as expected, with the annoying 0% fan issue, and it showed I was on the other bios in Precision. For my test I made sure Precision was at default and used Afterburner to set a custom fan curve and power limit, while Precision wasn't set to do anything. I just had it open to watch all the temps sensors. Afterburner ran through its scan without a hitch and I got an unusually low result. Not real low, but a bit lower than usual, when normally the scan never varies much at all. So at this point I was curious if maybe the oc bios did more than what people think. So I powered it all down again and flipped the switch back to oc mode, only it didn't take. I loaded everything back up and I was still in the normal bios. So then I powered everything down once again, this time unplugging all the power, from the pc and the card, and holding the power button to drain any residual. Waited a minute or two and turned it all back on only to find that it was still saying I was in the normal bios.
The bios it used to show when I was in oc mode was 90.02.30.00.AC, and the normal bios is 90.02.30.00.AA
The only thing I didn't do was remove the card from the pcie slot. As long as all the power was drained I don't see how that could be the issue, but maybe it was? I'm going to try again, but this time I'll remove the card and wait a bit before putting it back.

Okay. I was JUST about to do all that but then thought it would be a good idea to first check what gpuz had to say..... It is telling me that I am on the oc bios, even though Precision still thinks otherwise. So, it's Precision,..... again. =/

I tried to uninstall and reinstall Precision, and it still thinks I'm on the normal bios. So I unplugged everything and removed the card and waited a good five minutes before putting it all back. Precision STILL thinks I'm on the normal bios, while GPUz says I'm on the oc bios.
I have not tried an older Precision yet, and it looks like I may have to do that now. :(

Is there any reason I should try that Precision X16 you linked, and not just try and older version of the Precision X1 ?

Now I don't know what to think. And maybe it was a conflict between Precision and Afterburner, because even though gpuz says I'm on the oc bios, Afterburner is also telling me I'm on the normal bios.

I just posted a list that happened to have that on top. There are older versions underneath to try . If you get real problems with BIOS , chat to EVGA and they will send you another BIOS file in self installer format so you don't even have to flash. They did it with me many moons ago. I still have them somewhere but my FTW3 was triple fan and not AIO.

I have not yet reinstalled any version of Precision, but I THINK it's fixed. I flipped it over to normal and checked everything to make sure it showed it as normal. Then I flipped it back to oc again, and NOW finally everything says its on oc, AND the vrm fan is idling as it should (at 17%) with the oc bios, and not doing that 0% on and off nonsense.
Pretty sure just switching back and forth fix things, but that was weird, to be in a sort of limbo between bios. I'm a little worried that maybe the switch itself isn't stable.... IDK. =/

I am sure it's fine. You normally have to re boot after you swap positions. You fancy trying another Bios to get those clocks up a bit ?

I have been strongly considering it. Having these two bios settings does ease my mind a bit, but out of the two I would want to keep the oc bios untouched. Maybe not tonight, but maybe soon I'll have a go.

Just put the new BIOS on the normal position and happy days It's easy and I am sure you will be fine . I know which BIOS I would use because I used it before on my FTW3 but maybe do a bit of research and see which one you fancy .
