https://www.anandtech.com/show/15540/pcie-60-specification-hits-version-05-on-track-for-2021 The PCI-Express gen 6.0 specification reached an important development milestone, with the publication of its version 0.5 first-draft. This provides important pointers to PCI-SIG members on what features and design changes gen 6.0 hopes to bring, and what its all important number is - bandwidth. PCIe gen 6.0 quadruples per-lane bandwidth over gen 4.0 to 64 GT/s (double that of gen 5.0), resulting in bi-directional bandwidth of 256 GB/s in an x16 configuration. The spec also introduces a new physical layer change, with PAM4 (pulse amplitude modulation) signaling replacing NRZ (non-return to zero), a key ingredient in the generational bandwidth doubling effort. Despite this, PCIe gen 6.0 retains backwards-compatibility with all older generations of PCIe, which could mean the PCIe slot on motherboards may not look any different. PCIe gen 6.0 also introduces FEC (forward error-correction), and has similar per-channel reach as PCIe gen 5.0. Our older article on Intel's proprietary CXL outlines a key feature of PCIe gen 5.0 besides its bandwidth doubling over gen 4.0 - scalability. Although targeting completion in 2021, it could take several more years for the technology to transcend enterprise computing segments and reach the client. PCI-SIG anticipates the need for gen 6.0 kind of bandwidth in the industry by 2025. With that much bandwidth speeds should be unbelievable in my opinion.

I hope 2-3 innovations will become available in same time before DDR5 reach market. I would really like for next computer to have EVGA parts as mine best and biggest investment in platform. For now record was Z77 with 750 euro mobo-cpu-memory, but I payed CPU cheaper, record is beaten with X99 cost me 1000 euro but again i7-5820K is payed half price. Now plan is 1500 euro for motherboard-memory-cpu. I understand market much better then before 7-8 years when I was relly anger because low quality of parts. Today I'm ready on everything and nothing can't surprise me or frustrate me.

Having much lanes will it help in games performance?🤔
T hose who abuse power, are nothing but scumbags! The challenge of power is how to use it and not abuse it. The abuse of power that seems to create the most unhappiness is when a person uses personal power to get ahead without regards to the welfare of others, people are obsessed with it. You can take a nice person and turn them into a slob, into an insane being, craving power, destroying anything that stands in their way. Affiliate Code: 3T15O1S07G

exactly why do we need it yet... we don't saturate pcie3.0 yet let alone 4.0 which has 2x the bandwidth pcie.5 has 4x the bandwidth and 6.0 is 8x the bandwidth what exactly do you plan to run in it? like10-16 gpu's on x4 slots?

Unless GPUs make a huge leap in performance that's needing this bandwidth, it's worthless but I'm sure the enterprise world would differ. Out of curiosity, how much bandwidth or which PCIe gen would tomorrow's or a few gens from now, high-end GPU need on a 4K 120/144 hz with all the bells and whistles on a very high demanding triple A title?

having the "Standard for PCIe 6.0" in 2021 --> OK Actually on our hardware 2030 - 34 ?

yes enterprise - where you have 56-64 cpus and large data sets - ie servers - voice,AI,Science pulling from large number of SSD's at a time to send data to consumers or to do large processing in the mainframe but nowhere do we need it anytime soon in consumer market 8k gaming can be handle by current PCIe 3.0 thats 4 2080ti's baby 16k gaming well thats a ways off

This sounds like more useless marketing mumbo-jumbo to make you think you're getting something that is needed otherwise they're selling you the same tech at a premium price over n over.

I think this will be beneficial in the business environments. That is probably where this is headed. Later it will come to consumer PCs.

Now AMD's support for PCI-E 4.0 seems so outdated. Really wondering if we will see PCI-E 5.0 products or if it will just got to PCI-E 6.0. Amazing how fast that happened that we went from PCI-E 3.0 to 6.

It will be years before any PCI-E 5 or 6 device actually hits the consumer market. AMD going PCI-E Gen 4 already does make their platform more future proof. Say 5 years down the road you stick your Gen 5.0 device in your old X570 board, it will still run at Gen 4.0 speeds vs current Intel will fall all the way back to PCI-E Gen 3.0... big deal???... maybe, maybe not... time will tell.

When the $2000 Nvidia 5080Ti releases in 2025, it might possibly come close to maxing out PCIe 3.0 16x, so you should definitely be concerned about what $200 motherboard and $300 CPU you buy this year.
