I have a 2080ti Xc Ultra, it's an RMA which I assume someone returned at one point due to coil whine. Under normal gaming there is a slight coil whine but I can't hear it, however when I ran Furmark and minimized it (not having a window on top but actually minimize) I get an exceptionally loud shrieking sound that sounds like a capacitor is going to pop.

What is this noise and should I be concerned?

I get that coil whine is normal, but I'm getting it when I minimize an application, and thr sound is extremely strange for coil whine. I did put a YouTube link but can't include as a hyper link for some reason.

The application is still producing fps when you minimize the application. It seems like when you minimize the application the fps goes through the roof that is why you hear even more intense coil whine when the application is minimized.

That might be the case, I've never heard coil whine this bad and wondering if it's 'capacitor about to pop' levels of coil whine. Not fun if I alt tab an older game and the card goes pop

Coil whine is harmless, so it isn't going to cause a cap to pop.

If you don't hear it in normal circumstances, then you are fine. I wouldn't keep a card that has coil whine during normal operation. What is going on, like Sajin said, your FPS is shooting up (probably over 1,000) when you tab out of the game. This is perfectly normal. I doubt if you can find a card that doesn't have coil whine in situations where the FPS is extreme. You can also fire up an old 3d Mark benchmark (I don't even remember the names) and hear the same thing. In those benchmarks, the FPS will shoot up while the GPU usage is also high.

Card does have coil when in normal operation, takes about 1800 rpms on the fans to mask the coil whine.

When you alt-tab its likely your FPS is going very high. You can set a cap in the Nvidia control panel which will stop this from happening. Just pick a value slightly higher than the refresh rate of your monitor. If you are using a high refresh rate g-sync or g-sync compatible, set it for three FPS lower than the refresh rate.

That would be an automatic return for me. I don't buy/keep cards that have coil whine during normal operation. Not for the price of a 2080Ti. Usually, I buy from Amazon. If the card has coil whine during normal operation, I have at least 30 days to return it for a replacement/refund.

He is saying he must run his fans at 1800 rpm to cover up the coil whine noise.

I think this was an rma'd card due to coil whine, but it was my third card in about 6 weeks and the fact that it booted was good enough for me. My original card died for unknown reasons, no 3d applications would launch, my rma unit I received from EVGA right after got space invaders one day after receiving it, and EVGA rushed me another replacement. Was hoping third card would be new stock but it was RMA stock; doesn't OC well and has the coil whine issues but honestly I'm tired of dismantling my loop, gpu blocks and waiting for cards in shipping.

I do have an fps limiter in place, disabled for Furmark cause, well, stress testing.

The thing is there is a coil whine during a 3d load, but when I alt tab that original cool whine is still there and then this very high pitched one comes out as well, it's got to be a different SMD/capacitor doing it. Can't really record it correctly but the original coil whine is definitely there.

My 2080 Ti has coil whine in a loop.  I just cap my FPS to 120 instead of 144 and it lessened the level of whine for me at least.  If you're willing, I'd do the same and keep lessening it till you're happy with the audibiles since anything above 60 FPS is good enough for gaming honestly and you'll get a quieter GPU.

Not sure that I would buy another card from them in the future if I went through all that...  2 dead cards and then a loud coil whine card... Yeah, I am pretty sure I would be moving on if I had that experience.

Okay so new coil whine noise started, and this one is frankly obnoxious. RDR2 running on ultra so definitely isn't a case of excessive FPS here. Definitely louder than my gentle typhoons running at 1300 RPM.

Yeah, you really just need to contact EVGA and get yet another replacement. I'd be pretty upset in your situation.
