AMD has officially launched its Ryzen Threadripper 3990X processor, and with it comes a slew of new overclocking world records. That's right, AMD's Threadripper 3990X isn't even a day old, and it is already setting records. First up is TSAIK's record overclock of 5.55GHz, which was achieved on MSI's TRX40 Creator motherboard and a single stick of DDR4 DRAM at memory speeds of 1866MHz with CL13 timings. While others have reported that this was an all-core overclock of 5.5GHz, TSAIK's HWBOT submission only shows a single core running at this speed.

What's more impressive is the all-core 5.3GHz overclock that was achieved by SPLAVE, which was able to achieve a mind-bending score of 39518 on Cinebench R20. This overclock was completed on an ASRock TRX40 Taichi motherboard with two 1250W power supplies and G.Skill NEO memory which was running at 3200MHz with CL11 timings. This overclock was achieved using liquid nitrogen cooling. Over the coming days, overclocking enthusiasts worldwide will be putting AMD's Ryzen Threadripper 3990X through its paces, so expect to see more world record attempts in the coming days and weeks.

At stock, AMD's Ryzen Threadripper 3990X can already deliver mindbending levels of CPU performance in multi-threaded tasks, but in the world of hardcore overclocking, a CPU's stock performance is never enough. One has to wonder if we will ever see such a high Cinebench R20 score on a consumer-grade CPU at stock, and if so, how long will it take for such a processor to hit the market?

Looks like the 3990X is turning out to be a solid 64 core HEDT processor with zero competition from Intel at that price point.

Impressive. Intel needs to get their ass into gear on the high core count CPUs if they have any hope of competing in this sector. These huge core count CPUs are not relevant to gamers, but if you work with software that utilizes huge core counts, then AMD is completely killing it, especially when you look at the price comparison at this level! Why would any business pay $20K for something AMD can apparently supply for just under $4K. Gotta give credit where credit is due. Very impressive AMD.

Intel can't begin to play catchup until they get to 10nm or lower. Estimates are that Intel can finally reach 10nm by the end of the year...well, we'll see.

That is an impressive overclock considering the time it took to go from 1Ghz to 4Ghz. Let alone get to more then 4 cores on a chip. Intel really was holding back progress for years and while I still think Intel will come back and win it's great to see AMD pushing Intel to do much better.

Impressive!  Laughed at ASRock claiming they are the leading global motherboard, graphics card and mini PC manufacturer though, among other claims, which makes me wonder about the o/c.

Don't worry, it won't affect your AMD stock value but let's call a spade...... a spade shall we?  Intel's 14nm surprasses AMD's 7nm monster in clocks and Kingpin isn't done yet.  It's only the beginning so you might want to sit this one out.

Let me see the 3175x at 6GHz and then maybe it would be interesting, Intel 18 core is old news, I'm glad after 2 years Kingpin was finally able to hit 6G lol.

It almost did (5.7 GHz by the same OCer) and it's also on 14nm.

Hmm... if clock speed is all that matters to a few of you I suggest you purchase an old AMD FX-8370.... Its slow as **** but can clock over 8 GHz.

Also clocks have more to do with architecture and process maturity .... 14nm vs 7nm is silly... Intel clearly has a better overclocking architecture(that will change in the near future) and 14nm is so mature it's probably receiving silicon social security.
