4K Ultra HD (UHD) and High Dynamic Range (HDR) on Xfinity TV

So I did a little digging & discovered that with a new (Comcast) X1 (cable) box, that 4K UHD & HDR --> Is available from Xfinity

Because I purchased an new 4K HDR TV late last year ... I wanted to use the best signal ... previous X1 (cable) box 1080p

First step:
You will Need the XG1v4 box for DRV or the Xi6 for non-DVR.
You have to go to the Xfinity store & Request a "self install kit"

 (excerpts from link in title)

(excerpt 1)
Compatible TV Boxes

4K UHD and 4K UHD/HDR content viewing requires an Xfinity XG1v4 or Xi6 TV Box. You can find the model number of your TV Box by accessing About in the X1 Settings menu. XG1v4 model numbers are AX014ANM or AX014ANC, and Xi6 model numbers are AX061AEI or TX061AEI, listed as STB Version. You can also check the sticker located on the bottom panel of the device.

XG1v4 TV Boxes and Xi6 TV Boxes aren’t available to order online. While they also aren’t available to be requested for a professional installation, your technician may install one during an X1 installation appointment based on an evaluation of your home network.

You can get an XG1v4 or an Xi6 in select areas by visiting us in an Xfinity Store and requesting a Self-Install Kit from an agent. Please contact us to order.

Sure there is not that much content & if using apps you need to possibly subscribe

------------
(excerpt 2)
Can I record live events in 4K?
No, live events in 4K cannot be recorded.

Netflix: 4K UHD and 4K UHD/HDR are available if you subscribe to the Netflix Premium plan and have an XG1v4 or Xi6 TV Box with a    compatible 4K or 4K/HDR TV and/or AV receiver and/or soundbar. Learn more about watching Netflix programs on X1 or watching Netflix programs in 4K.

YouTube: 4K content on YouTube is available if you use the YouTube app on X1 and have an XG1v4 or Xi6 TV Box with a compatible 4K TV. Learn more about watching YouTube on X1.

Amazon Prime Video: 4K UHD and 4K UHD/HDR content is available if you use the Prime Video app on X1 and have an XG1v4 or Xi6 TV Box with a compatible 4K or 4K/HDR TV and/or AV receiver and/or soundbar. Learn more about watching Prime Video on X1.
See what Comcast / Xfinity has to offer -- on a Voice remote say "4K"

I thought you were talking about the Xbox 1 lol

Anyways, I used my PS4 for all streaming and stuff, Wow, What a mistake. I now use an apple TV 4K for everything and the difference is amazing. I was using my 4K TV in a completely wrong resolution due to the limitations of the PS4.

I know this has nothing to do with Xfinity, but just thought I'd mention it for anyone else.

720P/1080P for the most part, of course we stream and Air channels here. Not paying for Cable TV.  We do Air for local weather/Disney+/Netflix thats it...

It works great but I would really like my high def TV and it's 2020 and should already be a thing for my provider.

Unplugging my Denon AVR was required for it to "see the new hardware" down stream.

Even thought I had manually selected 4K previously, it improved the picture quality on my TV

The lack of UHD cable content is driving people full speed towards streaming services. Problem is, the bit rates on streaming service 4k dynamic stream encoding is nasty. Only really decent UHD content is 4k Blu-ray, which is rare as a sasquatch sighting. There is a total disconnect between hardware manufacturers and content providers.
