So I have voltage check points on my 2080 Ti (Asus Strix OC) as well as voltage check points on my motherboard, I am asking is there an easy way I can check these points hands-free? I am tired of janky solutions I need to watch voltages while I am hitting it with a load and there could be a "technical" term for something I can snap into the hole and leave my Volt meter attached. I just have no idea so I am just asking for some assistance.

Maybe something like this might do the trick:

Looks like that might do the trick I'll have to order them and just give it a shot. Thank you for your reply. Was surprised to see this wasn't a well know trick for all the XOC'rs in this forum.

Was surprised to see this wasn't a well know trick for all the XOC'rs in this forum.

Soldering is the most reliable method, which the majority of true XOC'rs would use; but would void your warranty and is probably the reason why the majority did not give you that obvious answer.

Thank you for your reply, I thought about that, I seen a picture where someone soldered sockets for a volt meter probe to them, so essentially what you can do is socket your prove into whichever one you wanted. I was unable to find the picture for this post or this would of been added. Thank you for your reply, I'm pretty fluent with a soldering gun I'll have to see how I can replicate that picture I saw.

I'm a high voltage/auto electrician and have been soldering for most of my adult life .
You really think anyone could pick up a soldering iron and solder without dry joints / solid joints without years of practice....I think not .
You WILL also put blobs of solder on things you don't want blobs of solder on .
You probably saw it on YouTube and thought, I can do that.
It's not a well known trick and takes a lot of Practice.
Don't do it , it will end in tears.
Even if you speak soldering fluently , it's really not that easy.

Umm, you ok man? You seem mad? No one said it was easy, plus I have 15 years experience with computers, small electronics. Im aware of OMG THE WARRANTY and all the other risks involved in things of this sort. Not only that they were already stated. Calm down.

Soldering is easy, just practice on some dead PCB hardware first for half an hour, and that's it. Use lots of flux and decent soldering iron with 40-60W heater and 1-2mm wide chisel tip.
No need to have PhD or years of experience to solder few pins to 2.54mm pitch holes :)

If you have question, please post in public forum. I do not reply PMs, so all in community can benefit the answer.

Agreed, I was just hoping there was some sort of snap in option as opposed to this solution, but it is what it is. After I buy my 2nd voltmeter I am going for it.

Of course it is.
You may know more about OC but I can assure I know more about this.
You actually don't use flux when you solder , the solder is already fluxed.
You actually need a point when you are doing fine soldering and not a "chisel tip ".
It's my job and I do this for a living.
You can't be experts at everything I am afraid .
You may be a moderator but please don't give bad advice.
It is not that easy without LOTS of practice .

Re: Voltage Check Points On Motherboard 2020/02/07 22:20:55 (permalink)
Fun.  Nobody pretended to be an expert in everything here, but fine soldering tip would be hopeless on the multi-layer PCB thru-hole pad like that. And not all solders have flux core, some are pure solder without any flux. Adding extra flux wouldn't hurt anything. Note of caution - do NOT use acid-based / metal-work or typical "active" flux, that will ruin your device!

And because thread starter wanted to connect rather big pins into large holes on the boards, 2mm chisel will work great here. Your soldering irons also look inadequate for proper PCB work. So seems you are in luck, if that toolset suffice for your job.

My usual setup for hardware modifications looks like below, but it's not realistic to expect computer ethusiast to invest in $600 USD soldering equipment just to connect few pins wires.

That's Illya "Tin" Tsemenko , i doubt if he's dwelling over it,  as in Vince's side kick, as in Vince "Kingpin" Lucido , as in the the creators of the kingpin cards, they are seen in several videos together, I suppose if anyone knows about the soldering on the video cards and motherboard it would be them. Here is one of there videos
