Hi, Im thinking of hot swapping the op-amps in the nu audio card but im unsure if i replace both op-amps or can i mix and match say like burson and moses?

    Don't hot swap! (don't swap while computer is on!)

    hahah The card will be powered off and disconnected from pc. pc will also be off. I just like the term hotswap lol sorry for missleading. Would i need to get 2 dual v5i burson op-amps and replace both amps in the card? my suspision is yes but my unsure tech side is saying just 1 amp should do it. also can i mix the amps with other ones like burson and a mosus amp? Thanks

    Well, you can really do whatever you want, honestly.  Basic considerations:
    • Line-out op-amp socket affects both the Line-out output and Headphone out output.
    • Headphone out op-amp only affects the headphone out output.
    • The AD8056 was selected for Line-out to have a more neutral impact on the output for the Line-out, while also allowing the headphone op-amp to be more noticeable, relatively speaking.
    • Audio Note recommends replacing both op-amps with the same op-amp (if compatible with the sockets) for best effect, but not required by any means.
    Basically, depending on your primary use for the Audio Card, if you're only using speakers, there's no reason to change both.  If you're using headphones, you might try changing one or the other to see how you like the new sound signature.  Otherwise, you can replace both for headphones.

    opamps are for analog signal path only.  Essentially they take the analog signal from the DAC and amplify it up to line level then it goes through the headphone amp circuit.  Order may be different but essentially that's what is happening.

    No.

    In that case, you should have bought a $30 digital optical out card. Optical is digital. The analog stuff you aren't using is what you paid money for. The digital audio which goes to the optical out is handled by your CPU, not sound card. The NU Audio card just relays it through.
