Is it possible to flash a CPU with different specs?

    I ask because I bought a 980x on here years ago. My MB went back, took the CPU out and set on my desk. Went to sell it yesterday and the writing on it says it is a Xeon CPU, however, I know for a fact that the BIOS said 980x and I had it overclocked to 4.2 on air. So it made me think if a fast one was pulled on my from a user in this forum years ago.

    Did you also buy the motherboard from the same user? If yes, the motherboard bios could have been modded to read 980x with the xeon.

    No it was one I bought new and upgraded to the 980x. Very strange.

    Ok I checked my kids old build and my 980x was in that build and I don't know why or when it got switched.
