I just want to make sure this is the most likely situation...
 
If post stalls at code 18 it means that the BIOS doesn't recognize the installed CPU?
 
I got this Z370 Classified about the time BIOS 1.08 was released but I had no way of knowing for sure if the board had been updated. I finally put the system together with a i5-9600K but I'm having no luck getting the machine to boot.

    Correct. You need to update the bios by using a compatible cpu, or you could send the board back to evga and have them update the bios for you.

    Long shot: You might be able to update the BIOS from a flash drive.
     
    1. Clear the CMOS
    2. Create a FAT32 bootable flash drive with Rufus using the FreeDOS Boot selection option
    3. Download/Extract 1.14 BIOS .zip file from the EVGA Download Center
    4. Put the contents (FPTDOS, FPTWIN, 1E379114.bin, update) of the E379_flashtool_114 folder on the flash drive
    5. Disconnect/remove all other drives (HDD, SSD, CD-ROM, whatever) so that the flash drive is seen as the only boot device
    6. Put the flash drive in a USB 2.0 port
    7. Start your PC and hope it boots to the flash drive command prompt
    8. Type in update or update.bat at the command prompt and press enter

    If no joy, do what Sajin said..Or, take it to your local PC repair shop and see if they can do it.

    I can get usage of a Intel Celeron G4900T, but I don't know if this chip is compatible with this board. It's not on the list and it's the low power variation besides. Anyone know?

    The 8th gen i3/Pentium/Celeron chips and the G4900T use the same CPUID of 906EB, which means the board should recognize that chip as well as it does the i3 8th gen CPUs.  Only EVGA could confirm the rest of the bios settings won't mind a G4900T but my guess is you'd be fine for a bios flash with that.
    I think you're in a similar boat to when I flashed my 370FTW with a G4920 chip... technically not on the supported CPU document but it worked.

    FWIW, the G4900T worked fine on this board - should anyone find themselves in a similar situation (as unlikely as that may be!)

    My build is in the signature and I'm not sure if I get any response on this old thread.
     
    @Jadaar,  I've the error code 18. I removed the memory card and it gave me a different code. I called the support line, they suggested to flip the BIOS DIP switch to BIOS II and same code 18. Followed the instructions from @sajin to update the BIOS. It restarted by itself. I don't have any way to confirm that the BIOS is updated or not, (as my display is not coming up) or which version of BIOS I have - most likely 1.09. I don't have a spare CPU. I do have another i3-4340 on another machine that I may try to swap and see if works. Any other ideas?

    I bought a Celeron G4900T and updated the BIOS to 1.19 and I'm able to boot with i5-9600K. I'm all set..
