Howdy,

The small Northbridge fan on my X58 motherboard basically sounds like an old prop plane at this point -- I've tried to tighten the screws, put a little padding in as I thought it was the housing vibrating, but I think the fan itself is just super loud. The board performs fine, and has for years, but if possible I'd like a replacement for the fan, if you guys even have any left! Otherwise, I've read that you can MacGuyver it with a 40mm fan and some zip ties... or something.

Thanks!

I've got the same problem on both E758 boards I have. I just removed the fan and housing and have a side panel fan blowing across the bare heatsink. So, I'd be interested if you have some sort of solution.

I apologize for the delay HeavyHemi; I was out of the office for the weekend and was unable to submit this request. I'll send you an e-mail as well, and we should be able to replace the fans.

Thank you very much Brandon. I received the fans and my NB temps dropped 10C under load.

I just found this thread. My X58 Northbridge fan died as well, support says they don't have any, don't know the part number and can't help me. All I need is the part number and model, I'm happy to buy another one.

This is a small clear fan attached on 3 points that mounts under the black plastic that says EVGA X58 directly below the CPU:

That looks like a standard box fan. I pulled mine, it's a "side-venting" fan with a curved shroud

Someone on this forum used the fan I linked to repair their dead fan on the same motherboard. It will work.

OK, worth a try, I guess. Doesn't match the layout at all though

The stock fan (the label says it's a Protechnic Magic MGT5012XR-A10) is strange beast. I've never seen computer fan attached with three screws before.

Out of curiosity, do you happen to know how they mounted it? I'm having the same problem and I can't see any screw holes on the heatsink except the two on the top.

Yeah that is is the 'spot tie' solution.  Honestly, my nephew is still running mine overclocked to 4.2ghz 980x and the temps are fine without a fan. Just remove the fan housing so you have better natural flow over the heatsink. Unless you're doing massive overclocking, you should be fine fanless. You can also control the speed in the BIOS.

That's reassuring to know as well.

EVGA's support people sent me a newer fan to replace the broken one. I was pleasantly surprised that they would do so for such an old motherboard!

Same here. They sent me two. The replacement lasted about a year before it started making an audible noise. My systems are really quiet. So I just removed the shroud. I still have a brand new spare. and an entire brand new spare E758 board in box. I need to create a hardware legacy wall or something. I've got an Apple II that still fires up.

sajin in this thread mentions the 40mm noctua fan (there are cheaper brands) that i was thinking of, youll have to zip tie down to hold in place.

The fan on my EVGA X58 mobo was noisy for the last while and has died. If a replacement (like the small one with the black shroud and labelled EVGA X58 on the top) how can I get one?

you can contact evga by email or phone, info on the website. im doubtful they will have a 13 year old fan available. or you can remove and open up the fan shroud to see what size fan is in there. could be 40x40x10mm, if so there are many fans you can buy.
