I have to say I do not understand what's that NU Audio Pro about. I have Nu Audio and want to upgrade. Using only headphones and only for gaming. Which one should I buy as an upgrade ? Is it one card or two cards?

So:

NU Audio Pro 7.1 (712-P1-AN21-KR) = NU Audio Pro (712-P1-AN11-KR) + NU Audio Pro Surround (712-P1-AN10-KR).

We will be selling each of those products separately.  You would want to wait for the NU Audio Pro to be released by itself.

I'm guessing the new Pro card did away with the front panel I/O connection?  I don't see it mentioned, or I may have missed it?

You are correct.  No front panel header.

2 days before this was released I was searching the internet for an expansion sold EMI shield to put between the graphics card and the audio card....

Will the Pro back plate fit the original card?

And will they be available for purchase?

No, the backplate will not fit the original card.  A number of differences, plus, they use different I/O brackets to accommodate the backplate.

I had to return my previous card due to coil whine from the graphics card, which I really wanted to keep because the audio reproduction was fantastic. Will this EMI shield on the back plate shield the card from most, if not all, the coil whine?

The backplate will have an effect of reducing EMS.  However, there is no way to guarantee that it will prevent this in all situations.  Anyone who's familiar with coil whine in graphics cards and power supplies knows that this can be a very fickle type of issue for some people.  I recall your issue, but the most I can advise is to test the Pro card(s) out to see if you remain noise-free.  It wouldn't be honest to advise you otherwise.

For two channel get Energy Take Classic speakers and a nice 2 channel mini amp. Currently I have a pair of Energy Take Classics with a 2 channel mini amp and I'm using an rca splitter to connect to a Klipsche Promedia 2.1 subwoofer with the stereo speakers disconnected. Sounds amazing.

Yesterday I did an "auto notify". Today at 8:55 am said it was in stock. When I went to the product page it's still on pre-order.

There are not two cards actually. The second card cannot function without the first card. The second card adds only multichanel for SPEAKERS only!! If you use ONLY headphones the second card is useless for you.You can buy the Nu Audio Pro over the Nu audio because to further improve your sound quality for headphones.

I already have a high-end headphone amp, but considering upgrading from my Schiit Multibit and Eitr stack to a better DAC. Fingers crossed I wouldn't run into EMI issues by going to an internal sound card. But, I'd be interested in hearing any thoughts around sound quality differences.

Any ballpark ETA on the Nu Audio Pro standalone release?

Lee, has the digital out been affected? I'm currently just using it as a digital output. Paid full retail on this unit so not looking to upgrade anytime soon. Could always gift it at some point :)

Does the software that comes with the card have a voice changer? For example, monster voice, happy voice, male, and female? I have it on my asus essence stx ii and I love it.

The digital out is mostly unchanged from the original NU Audio card.  The only thing that would potentially affect the digital out would be the different main power section of the Pro card, which more or less means there shouldn't be much of a difference, with regards to the digital out.

PC without dedicate sound card is not PC for me.
And sound card should be in level with other components.
People pay 3000-4000$ for PC and use SupremeFX sound, no comment.
Sound card is 30-40% of reason why I can't switch to Mini ITX PC.

If someone think that high end onboard solutions are excellent, I notice difference between mid and high class sound card need to say that best audio solutions are not even close to 80$ worth SBZ. And you don't need to have super expensive 7.1 or 5.1 systems. On any normal speakers you notice difference.
Good pair of desktop speakers like A2+ or A5+ or far more then you need to notice extreme difference between mid and high level of sound cards.
A lot of people upgrade from GTX1080 to RTX2080...example, or GTX1070 to RTX2070... Why instead they not buy Audioengine A2+ and EVGA Sound card and delay upgrade of GPU one next year. That's investment for 10-15 year in Desktop sound, excellent quality. You don't need to connect PC to Hi-Fi, recivers, DAC, Amplifiers, 5 surround speakers... Simple PCI-E sound card and pair of active desktop speakers.

I'm currently just using it as a digital output.

Why? Waste of money. The analog stuff, you aren't using, is what you paid extra for. You can get a different digital output, which sounds identical, for $50.

I am currently a Sound Blaster ZXR owner, and I have bought a pre-order for the Nu Audio Pro 7.1 package. I can't wait to get it. I have Burson Audio V6 Vivid Single and Dual opamps in my ZXR card currently. I will be putting all V6 Vivid opamps into the Nu Audio Pro when I get it. If anyone here wants me to put up a review of the card when I get it, I will be glad to do so.

"We took the solid foundation of the NU Audio Card"

I had to stop there.
There is still basic problems with the NU card, people here have all sorts of fundemental problems with the product. Just look at the latest post, even after several driver and firmware updates, still problems, crackling audio, issues with teamspeak etc. I really want to pull the trigger on the NU card, but not before the basic stuff is in order. Good luck EVGA

Seems like a bit of an oversight to not include a HDMI audio socket on the card. Optical and Analog connections don't support Dolby Atmos or DTS:X signal - only high speed HDMI supports them.

The main focus with this card is to use it with 2 channel analog, or 5.1/7.1 analog with the daughter card. This way, you are fully utilizing the AKM DAC chips on the card. There really is no need for HDMI on the card. With HDMI, the DACs will not even be used, and you will then be using the DAC in your receiver. Any receiver out there under 1500 bucks will not have DAC chips in it as good as the 4 x AKM 4493 DAC chips used on the Nu Audio Pro. The AKM 4493 is a very high end chip, and you don't find DACs of this level in receivers until you hit the 2000 dollar and above price point. If the receiver has 6/8 channel analog inputs, the sound quality when using analog from this card will be superior to using HDMI, unless it is an ultra high end flagship receiver with an equivalent DAC in it.

Since to normal one, is still not availible in Germany, i dont expact a fast availiblity in Europe for the Pro. The Pro is also still not listed on the german page. But the card can be good as hell and better than the original one, but the software is still not working well. Since they cant provide a perfect update, im not sure, if you should by them

Having 7.1 on a headset is nothing but a gimmick. If you want good positional audio in a headphone, just buy a real headphone. For under 200 US, you can get the Beyerdynamic DT 880 250 Ohm headphones, and it will blow that Razer trash out of the water. The DT 880 is neutral, detailed, and has an excellent soundstage. You can detect exactly where everything is in games. For the 200 bucks price level, you can't beat this headphone.

Re: Introducing the EVGA NU Audio Pro Cards - Ascend From Lifelike Audio to 7.1 Heaven 2020/01/08 19:17:50 (permalink)
I just requested the Nu Audio pro card using their upgrade program: . Looks like a great deal and I am really excited to see these improvements, even though I very much love the original. I noticed that I was only able to get the bundle (pro card and daughter card). Not a big deal for me, maybe someone will come out with real 7.1 headsets that are not total crap (I don't think that's even possible).

Currently I'm using the Sennheiser HD 650 paired with the original Nu Audio card. I know these headsets are used for music, however I am also using them for FPS gaming as well. It does not really bug me; I do hear where people/bombs are at on a map. That being said I am now more interested in other headsets to use for gaming only. @DannyW75 had a great recommendation on the DT 880's I am very much considering. I would love to see other (non 7.1) headphone recommendations using this new pro card. I am sure this would be useful for others in the community. Thanks in advance!

If you already own the HD650, the DT 880 is not an upgrade for you. It is more of a sidegrade. What sound signature are you after ? If you like the warmer sound of the HD650, a perfect upgrade for you is to step up the Beyerdynamic Amiron Home. You would be extremely impressed with this headphone. It is an excellent upgrade from the HD650. The soundstage, imaging, and detail retrieval are far superior on the Amiron Home compared to the HD650. It has a lush, warm, and non-fatiguing sound. I have owned this headphone for about 2 years, and I highly recommend it. Be aware that the headphone has a burn in period, but it is not long. The Amiron Home reaches its final sound after about 50 hours of use.

You are going to be blown away by the Nu Audio Pro as well. It is the best sound card I have owned to date. I took out all the opamps, and replaced them all with my LME49720HA metal can opamps on adapters. The sound quality of those opamps paired with the excellent AKM 4493 DAC chips on the card is just stellar.
