Hello.

I stupidly bought two identical kits of F4-3200C14D-16GVK rather than a 4x8 kit. Will the x299 Dark be able to run them in quad channel?
I did some research and some seem to have success with 2 separate kits, but I understand there is a risk. I am willing to tweak the timings myself.

Does anyone have experience with these particular sticks? Or this matter in general?

You have two identical kits? Each kit has x2 8GB sticks of RAM? If this is the case there is no issue at all, the RAM is exactly the same. As long as both kits are exactly the same should not cause any issues.

Yes two identical kits of 2x8, same speed and timings. Great! Good to know, thank you.

You should be fine than, I did the same thing in my build. Was cheaper to by x2 kits than one kit.

It’s like asking for trouble. Never mix ram kits. Many techs will tell you that but if you find your worse memory stick timings and makes the others as loose, it should run fine. The lowest denominator is the problem here not so much the 2x2 ou 1x4 kit.

He is not mixing RAM kits, they are identical in performance and specifications.

I believe there’s a reason those are 2 sticks kits. They haven’t been tested in quad channel. Even if they’re the same specs, it’s not 100% guaranteed they’ll work.

    https://rog.asus.com/foru...-and-potatoes-overview

Reading this helps understand the potential issues that can arise when combining kits even if they’re the same specs.

Not trying to discourage, just trying to be critical. If he tries and succeed then good otherwise it’s understandable.

Interestingly GSKill also says the same thing on there site... Honestly I call BS on that though, seems like a great way to sell more RAM. If the RAM is the exact same specification it should work regardless...

OP I would say your fine I don’t know that I have ever seen this be an issue. I would encourage you to run a memory test regardless to ensure that there are no issues, plus it will give you peace of mind.

I feel the same way jason but things are what they are.

Pretty sure he’ll be fine. Just don’t use XMP.
