Is the 7920/40X a better buy? I can actually get them cheaper and have a delid tool.

If cheaper then probably.

Don't forget, too...that the original Skylake-X (even though were pasted instead of soldered)...have a lower TDP of 140W (except the top tier...but 7940 is 140W) vs the refresh and 109XX series, which both have 165.  The latter gens are going to be as hot as the original series...but the original series are supposedly better overclockers.  The 7920 may get you where you want to go.

Thanks, probably get one then. It will be under water anyhow.

The i7 9800X and i9 9820X that I had for a short while, ran so much cooler out of the box compared to my i7 7820X before deliding it. From reviews posted on this thread, the 10980XE runs at 75C max temp under a premium cooler like a 240mm AIO set-up. A very small portion of the enthusiast wish that they didn't solder the newer chips because LN2 works better on the non-soldered chips. However, people that don't want to risk destroying their CPU in the process of deliding the processor it was very welcome. Intel might have a market for such a chip to come without a IHS for those enthusiast that want a CPU without a IHS, I suppose it's not a big enough crowd to be worthwhile.

Mine maxes at around 84C at full load using EVGA CLC 280.  Clocked at 4.6 all cores and voltage at 1.17.   The key to the pasted Skylake X is to keep voltage under 1.20 and temps will stay pretty safe.  At 1.19, I can clock to 4.8 but as I said before...I see low 90's in temp...too close for comfort, for me.  Full water...you may see better

This information helps me plan out the OCs I want to run.  As long as I'm getting 4.4-4.8 Ghz under 60c on custom liquid, I'm one happy camper.  I will mostly base it on having good temps.  I'll honestly take any OC at the 50c-60c mark tbh.  I wanna keep this chip happy and around for 5 years or so.

I'm getting one soon, should be here around the 5th. My X58 762-A1 (Lifetime Warranty) died, Yes I know it isn't an AMD, But they RMAed my 762 for an X299 FTW K, and I had to buy something. Yes it's expensive, but about the same price I paid for the 980 X EE, (Back in the day) and I can no longer use it. And should be a considerable performance boost. Should be able to use the same case and PSU (AX1200)… Will have to buy CPU, and Memory, could find no Cascade Lakes, but the 10980X…. Found some Compatible Memory on E-bay, for about half the Price.... And I should lose the Bottlenecks on my RTX 2080 super, And could NV Link it if I wished, could not do that with the PCIe 2 lanes dropping to 8X 8X at half the speed of PCIe 3, and my 3 SATA 2 SSD’s in raid zero would gain. This should be the Last CPU made for this board anyway.  Should start building in a week, when the postman delivers all the stuff. Now if i can just Build something that will last as long as the X58 did.

Thank AMD

+1 ye😼 you know they will not acknowledge that🙄

Those who abuse power, are nothing but scumbags! The challenge of power is how to use it and not abuse it. The abuse of power that seems to create the most unhappiness is when a person uses personal power to get ahead without regards to the welfare of others, people are obsessed with it. You can take a nice person and turn them into a slob, into an insane being, craving power, destroying anything that stands in their way.

I still can't get over how Newegg has zero LGA-2066 CPUs in stock... every single one has been a third-party seller for the past month or two.

Surely seems the scalpers got a hold of them quicker than the poor consumer patiently waiting.

To some extent not saying but just saying, this could become a scandalous new business model for some mfgers to use 3rd parties to jack up the prices for them. Just a thought. I mean who's been keeping tabs?

I have no idea if COVID-19 is hampering supply efforts.

I do know I found the 10980XE at one place for $1258 for the Tray model with a one year warranty, and at another with the Box model for $1,098, for the Boxed Version with a three year warranty, to be fair one charged Tax and one didn't, both had free shipping, but we are still talking $150, just based on the link you click, and 2 years of warranty. Also Amazon wanted almost $600 more ans showed the 10980 in the pic, but described the 9980 in the discreption.

I am sure it did as COVID-19 put a lot of people working from home and realizing they needed to upgrade and the portability of a laptop doesn't make sense in a pandemic. Probably also that stimulus check helped people afford new hardware as did the bonus to unemployment for those out of work because of the virus.

Yeah I haven't seen any usual sellers with stock since the end of december.

Well it's just so bizzare. AMD isn't having much trouble, and yet it's CPUs are selling like hotcakes. Meanwhile it's been two months and Newegg doesn't seem interested in stocking LGA-2066 parts even though I believe these chips are even made in the US. Last I checked they didn't even have the 2011v3 chips either.

Intel is only producing a handful of newer LGA-2066, 14nm supply is still poor so Xeon is getting most of the silicon. Intel had very poor supply from the very beginning, AMD did also but that was because they didn't order enough from TSMC which they rectified(Apple moved off 7nm leaving AMD lots of capacity) and supply got better.

If Intel doesn't have adequate supply of 14nm after six years, then it seems logical they aren't going to even come close to having enough supply of 10nm, let alone 7nm since they have fewer fabs capable of each. Last I heard 7nm won't even be used for CPUs until 2022 at the earliest, it's going to be dedicated all for Xe graphics chips next year.

Intel was supposed to be high volume 10nm by now, so having lower 14nm capacity, and having these massive die's would have been a non issue. They can't just keep allocating more and more resources to increase 14nm capacity when they know that in the end that is just a dead end. They have to push forward to the future and allocate all their best resources into fixing 10nm while doing the best with what they already got,
