https://www.overclock3d.net/news/software/geoff_keighley_gives_gamers_a_sneak_peek_at_half-life_alyx/1 Earlier today, Valve revealed Half-Life: Alyx, the next entry into the Half-Life series, shipping as a prequel to Half-Life 2 with gameplay mechanics that are only possible within VR.
Why VR? Why a prequel? Why Half-Life? Why not Half_life 3? These are the questions that many gamers are asking. Thankfully, Geoff Leighley is ready with a behind closed doors look at Half-Life: Alyx. Sadly, this sneak peek includes no gameplay for Half-Life: Alyx, but it answers many of these key questions.
For starters, Half-Life: Alyx started as a look into VR game mechanics, not as a "new Half-Life game". Valve discovered what works within VR and then looked at its collection of franchises to see which series was most suitable? Portal? Nah, too much fast movement and insane jumps. Counter-Strike? No, multi-player wouldn't work given the small instal base of VR headsets. Half-Life? Yes, that could work.
