Some folks have had issues with UPSs in the past.  When troubleshooting, always disconnect from the battery backup.

Use this Associate Code at your checkouts or follow these instructions for Up to 10% OFF on all your EVGA purchases:

Oh, are you on a UPS battery backup as well? I didn't recall noticing that. That seems to be what Steve b is hinting at.
Bypass your Cyberpower UPS and plug into Surge protector side of it instead of the battery backup side. Then re-test.

huh... ok in surge protector side. Valley test went ok, I ended it after about 2 minutes. Now I managed to get in a Fortnite match...recently I've been crashing as soon as I try to get in lobby. may be a fluke though, I've had some of those...

ok nevermind crashed after just a few minutes in match. i'll try skipping UPS altogether now.

Hope that's the fix! Wish I would of seen it listed in your specs. Usually people dont even list their psu let alone a UPS.

I never use a UPS.. had one thet kicked the bucket decades ago and never bothered again. I guess if you have power brown outs of spikes often it would be a good idea.

It's a big battery and it will wear out eventually from recharging often.

Possibly cant handle the quick power draw of your system.

It's in my 2nd post, although I typoed and it said USP instead of UPS but it did have the make and model.
When I got the UPS I had been having a lot of brown outs taking out the power during stream for less than a second but enough to restart my PC. Extremely annoying. Hasn't been happening lately...and when it does happen the UPS beeps and it hasn't beeped for a while...
Anyway, that seems like the solution, that the UPS went bad, now I'm plugged direct from wall.
I did a Unigine Valley test on ultra for a couple minutes before stopping and it was fine. and just now I managed to complete a couple team rumble matches in Fortnite without a problem. GPU temp got up to 80C, its fans up to 2718RPM, utilization up to 100% (this all according to CPUID Hardware monitor pro).

guess I need a new UPS? or just a new battery for this one?

ok meant to ask, if the UPS is failing does that explain the Live Kernel Event codes? 141, 117, 144, bad dumpfile, rejected by rule...
or those monitor freezes I thought were caused by vlc?

80c.. yeah not good. Might want to set a more aggressive fan profile for the card to keep those temps down in the 60s if possible. Something thet kicks up the fans sooner to keep the card from getting toasty then kicking in at 100% or so when it's too late.

Low power can cause all sorts of stuff to go off.. electronics like the motherboard needs certain power to run stable.. chipset cpu, memory, gpu and drives.. would seem feasible.

Yeah I'd try to replace the battery on it if possible or just grab a bigger model that meets the systems demands if your having power issues in your house.

Prob during the summertime when everyone is running their air conditioning. Winter close so ya got some time to find a replacement I bet.

I'd still say grab a Kill-A-Watt locally at a hardware store or amazon and install that on the outlet and connect your pc to that to monitor the voltage and wattage used at peak pc usage.. it can monitor your voltage at the outlet alone so you can see if the volts hold 220 stable. Much lower or higher can point to an issue at your fuse box or service. If so.. you can test it alone on multipal outlets around the house to find issues.

yeah the SeaSonic S12III 500W 80+ Bronze I got for this build. I'm about to swap GPUs which I don't want to do because building this PC is the only experience I have doing this sort of thing... but GPUs are fairly easy so I should be alright.

Alright.. wish ya luck! Let us know.how the next card is.

on old system with new GPU (FX 6300, DDR3 1x8GB 800MHz, MSI 760GMA, Insignia 450W, windows 8.1)
Unigine Valley ran fine on ultra settings, I stopped after a few minutes no crash. now in a Fortnite match on auto (epic/high) settings for a few minutes no crash.
there's apparently some bottlenecking. speccy lists my VRAM as 2GB instead of 6. the bottleneck calculator I used says the other system with old gpu will be even worse.

now I've also tried new system with old gpu and it didn't crash in valley and Fortnite hasn't crashed either after 2 matches... someone suggested just reseating the 1660ti could it really be that simple? hmm

eh now someone else says it's probably the SeaSonic that's defective and that I should put the old PC's Insignia 450W, plus the 1660Ti in the new system as a 'final test' ...

Re: Random restarts, maybe my 1660 Ti 2019/11/18 22:06:17 (permalink)
I didn't want to post this too soon but it looks like I fixed it. The PSU was faulty.
I did switch GPUs. I put my 1660ti in my old PC and I put my old PC's R7 250 (which I didn't know was 250..speccy/device manager just say 'r7 200 series' but I looked at it the card itself and it says AXR7 250) in the new PC. Neither system crashed.
Then I put them back and it seemed like reseating the 1660ti fixed it but eventually I started getting restarts again. So I put my old PC's not-so-old Insignia 450W in the new PC and after thorough usage I haven't had any restarts or freezes. Thank you everyone for your help.

Random restarts are usually caused by the PSU. So I'm not surprised that was probably it.
