Kinda sad...I used to do a lot of shopping there.  Went into Frys the other day and was flabbergasted at there being little or no stock on the shelves

Maybe Amazon is forcing them to consolidate & become mail order based ?

Frys was always pricey iirc 15+ years ago and they had a small selection.  It sseems like they never adjusted with times and now has come to bite them in the rear.

Yup, my local Fry's has been on a steady decline over the last 5 years.  Their selection has gotten worse and worse and I have visited it fewer and fewer times.  At one time, I could walk in and find anything that I wanted.  Then, sometime within a year ago, I went there to buy a tube of thermal paste and couldn't find a tube of thermal paste to purchase; nor water cooling fluid.

When I visited approximately a month ago, I walked diagonally across the store and only saw a single sales person.  Crazy.  And many shelves were empty.

I asked the sales person what was going on and whether they were closing, and he said that many people were laid off and that they were restructuring and hoping to be back in full force in a month; and if not, they may close.  I haven't been back since then.  I wonder if they have closed.

I understand that maybe thermal paste is too common and the margins are too low, or water cooling fluid is too niche to stock, but if they don't have products to cause people to go there to buy something based on convenience, people don't have a reason to NOT BUY online from a different retailer.

When I did a rebuild little over 4 years ago on z170 platform I pretty much got most of the build from my local Fry's, went in the morning, built the system that night.

Then last Nov on doing z390 system went to them first and was shocked on how very little stock they had, very few gpu's, no psu's, nothing on the newer side of cpu's, just

crazy to see. As ty_ger07 said a couple of months or so ago went in to check monitors cause they always had a good selection on display, I pretty much walked into an empty

    store.

Sad to see retail stores close or about to close in this way but online stores seem to be the success story

Is Fry's even on Amazon, Newegg, Ebay, etc.?  I don't think they are and if they weren't, well that's that.  I think Sears learned the hard way as well as many others.  Either get with the times or your days are numbered.

It really doesn't seem that even online stores are the success story besides Amazon. I wonder how many online retailers the average person can name let alone say they placed an order with in the last six months besides Amazon. I mean how many people realize that RadioShack spun off it's website and you can still buy products from it?

Aren't they owned by the same group that owns CompUSA, Circuit City, TigerDirect, etc...?

I stopped going to Fry's when I would go to their website and it said the product was in stock, call the store and they said it was in stock, ask if it was brand new and not open box... Then, get to the store and they had some messed up looking open box only of that product, or they didn't have it at all. They always had some excuse too. Plus, they had a shady vibe to their business. I have been waiting for Fry's to go out of business for a long time now. I'll be happy to see them close their doors. If it isn't now, it will happen later. I hope Best Buy does too.
