NVIDIA has reportedly codenamed a future GPU architecture "Hopper," in honor of Grace Hopper, an eminent computer scientist who invented one of the first linkers, and programmed the Harvard Mark I computer that aided the American war efforts in World War II. This came to light as Twitter user "@kopite7kimi," who's had a fairly high hit-rate with NVIDIA info tweeted not just the codename, but also a key NVIDIA product design change. The tweets were later deleted, but not before 3DCenter.org reported on them. To begin with, "Hopper" is reportedly succeeding the upcoming "Ampere" architecture slated for the first half of 2020.

"Hopper" is also rumored to introduce MCM (multi-chip module) GPU packages, which are packages with multiple GPU dies. Currently, GPU MCMs are packages that have one GPU die surrounded by memory dies or stacks. This combination of GPU dies could make up "giant cores," at least in the higher end of the performance spectrum. NVIDIA reserves MCMs for only its most expensive Tesla family of compute accelerators, or Quadro professional graphics cards, and seldom offers client-segment GeForce products.

So it looks like 'Hopper' if valid will replace next gen Quadro cards. Take these rumors will a bit of salt though.

What ever happened to that timeline that went nowhere or the VRAM stacking or SLIs VRAM combined?  I'll take any of the future blabber talk and wait...

I always take these stories with a grain of salt until I see NVIDIA release a card and I can see with my own eyes the benchmark numbers. When people start waiting for the next generation they end up always sitting on the fence because of a new rumor showing up.

Use an Associates Code & SAVE 5% - 10% on your purchase. Just click on the associates banner to save, or enter the associates code at checkout on your next purchase. If you choose to use my code I want to personally say "Thank You" for using it.

Since when did Nvidia start virtue signalling with codenames? Do we have to show our SJW badge at the checkout counter at Microcenter before they allow us to buy it?

Failing the SJW badge, proof of CA residency would suffice. Special discount for Berkeley residents.

seems they already broke the electric theme with Turing, but if Ampere comes after, maybe they are alternating? so Ampere, Hopper, Watt, (another programmer), Ohm, etc.
So Watt and Ohm jokes are still still possible.

NVIDIA Next-Generation 7nm GPU: TSMC To Get The Bulk of Orders, Samsung’s EUV Has A Smaller Role

During GTC 2019 in Suzhou, China, NVIDIA's CEO responded to the press that the majority orders of their next-generation 7nm GPU will be handled by TSMC with Samsung only playing a small role than previously reported.

finally, Jensen was asked about the launch timeframe of their next-generation 7nm GPU but he simply replied that it wasn't a convenient time for them to disclose any date at the moment. We know from a recent interview with NVIDIA's CFO, Colette Kress, that they want to surprise everyone with their own 7nm GPU announcement but they are waiting for the right time to do so.

    -----------------------------------------------------------
which could mean they could announce anytime soon -which means they have stock
