About

The iThena distributed project concerns experimental mapping of network structures included in the Internet.
The project is in closed beta phase. Currently, the only application available in the project (iThena CNode) performs a sequence of traceroute procedures from client computers.
The resulting data is sent back to the server and submitted to the main database, where it can be further analyzed.

Currently the main supported and recommended platform is x86_64-pc-linux-gnu.
After joining the project, accept the download of test/beta applications in the settings (iThena CNode is a Beta application).
This can be changed by checking the appropriate box 'Run test applications?' in 'iThena preferences' in your profile after logging in.
Network structure mapping summaries will be available online.

Keep an eye on data traffic. It can be a bit heavy on the router/switch. Especially if you run multiple work units across the same network.

I reached out to the former admin of netDIMES and got him in touch with Rysiu. Hoping they can work well together as the netDIMES project wasn't near as hard on the network.

There is a thread in their forums about credits and badges. When credits were assigned they were so small that they had too many digits to show up. So, they looked like 0. However, I think he is planning on "fixing" the stats to be more community friendly in some way. No ETA yet on all of his plans for this.

Too bad there are so many projects, my PCs can't run all of them.
Can anyone explain in plain English what they mean with 'experimental mapping of network structures included in the Internet.'?
Doesn't really describe clearly what they're doing...

Yes Lots of Projects, but that is where Teams come in and you run Events and Challenges within Teams and Between Teams.
I run Different Projects each week and change out going between them Collecting Badges for Projects that have them.
This Project using No CPU Cores or Threads it is what is called a NCI Application and using no CPU Resources.
Other than the first Post you would find more answers on their website https://root.ithena.net/usr/about.php
Sounds to me they are only mapping Networks that also includes the Internet like mapping Land or even the Stars.
Do a Google Search on Internet Mapping and Network Mapping

    ProDigit,
I think it's a latency tester for the internet. Not sure what their goals are.
There's a lot of projects to choose from. The best way to think about it is what type of science do you want to do.
Pure Math (Primegrid, enigma and others)
    Or
Science (WCG, Seti, LHC and others)
Then pick a few projects to focus on. I happen to only run WCG and LHC with a side of Seti during challenges.

Latency is done via servers, Boinc doesn't do internet latency, unless it's processing the data on internet latencies.
I'm not really eager to support projects that are endless resource pits, like:
a- Projects that are always changing and never ending (like weather, internet mapping,...).
b- Projects that don't immediately help humankind (find prime numbers, mathematical puzzles, games).
c- Fantasy research (Seti, sorry guys, I'm a firm believer there are no aliens, and if there are, it won't matter because they're either bacteria, too primitive, or too far away for anything to make sense)

I do like to help out:
    a- Medical research
    b- Mapping of the galaxy

I have found an interesting project that is running test batches for tasks like boinc, but using different algorithms.
As far as I understand, It's a project that will simplify finding results on other projects, as I believe with the increase in hardware, the increase in results are kind of overwhelming to the scientists studying them.
I just can't seem to remember the name of the project.

    @ProDigit
It is your choice to run what BOINC Project you wish but it is also up to others as well to pick what BOINC Project they wish to run.
This Thread is only to announce a new BOINC Project to our Team Crunching@EVGA.
You are still welcome to Join Our Team.

FYI this project has a windows app now and they adjusted the points (you get more, but not much).
I tested over the last couple days and it is working okay.

I've been a member since, but the project seems to be down.
The project also doesn't integrate with BAM.
How much CPU does it use?

Haven't really tested it but BOINC does show it running as non-CPU intensive.
