Since the release of SR-2 Classified. Boy i remember those glorious days. Evga not only attempted to do the obvious when no one thought of exposing such platform on enthusiast level. I must say it was a success over all. Eliminating barriers and combining server class to mainstream enthusiast class. However the product ended up with an overkill price tag. Still people who as of a bencher, enthusiast and serious hardware geeks took the jewel. Not only this alot of server level companies/firms and developers felt proud of keeping using this hardware and preferred it as best in class.

Let's just hope they don't make any of the critical design faults like they did on the SR-2, including:
1) Use of NF200 PCIe bridges/multiplexers (inherently breaks VT-d for PCI passthrough due to bypassing the IOMMU). It ate a month of my life getting to the bottom of the root causes of that one and writing a patch for Xen to make PCI passthrough work via a workaround.
2) Buggy BIOS. Not only were some of the bugs never fixed, but with 7 PCIe slots, it could only map memory apertures under the 4GB limit.
3) 2x 6-Gbit SATA-3 ports behind a single 5-Gbit PCIe lane (so plugging in two SSDs resulted in them running slower than if both were connected to the SB SATA-2 ports
4) FSB stability that never lived up to the hype. You could get less than 10% extra FSB out of it before the PLL started to freak out and the clock speed stability started to go all over the place.
5) Terrible memory compatibility. It only officially supported a paltry 48GB of RAM, when each CPU was good for at least 96GB. With 96GB of RAM, the board would take minutes to decide if it was going to POST the first time after power-on (but would then POST fine on every subsequent reboot)

I eventually gave up and got a Supermicro X8DTH which had near identical spec (minus the OC features) and have lived happily ever since with none of the mentioned issues. It just wasn't worth it for the, in reality, negligible OC-ing potential. Best part? The X8DTH cost me 1/4 of what I got the the SR-2.

That thing looks to be more E762 next-gen that SR-anything. It's single socket. Then again, the core counts anymore make dual socket redundant I suppose.

This motherboard is danger, force you on crimes, just to buy motherboard cheapest Xeon and 6 DIMMs of memory.
No 1 Design ever. ASUS Dominus is funny for this, GIGABYTE C621 as well.
Why I never can afford such motherboards to go around and make people jealous 24/7 on every forum...???

Huh...

Best memory for her is Crucial Ballistix Elite six DIMMs 8GB 3600/4000.
They would look like part of motherboard, not other hardware.

You're safe for now, there is no sign of the board actually becoming available to buy any time soon. It was last seen 4 months ago and not a word of news about availability has been heard since.

Lucky people will use this motherboard years without thinking is it AMD faster, or slower or how new Xeons work, simply enjoy in this beauty.
Both motherboards are nice ASUS Dominus Extreme and GIGABYTE C621 but SR-3 is beyond that.
Horizontal DIMM slots help to airflow and cooling motherboard with case fans, special in case bigger memory heatsinks like Dominator Platinum and similar.

I've been putting off getting a W-3175X for nearly a year now, waiting for this board. Another months and I'll just skip upgrading alltogether for another generation.

This is real high end. Skylake-X is premium platform but this is level above for very very rear customers who not care when platform will become obsolete. Customers who upgrade on X570 or Z390 look more to have last processor and platform, with this is something different.
Like Harley Davidson... even many year old models are still wanted and expensive.

Not really, the same customer base is targeted by two competing boards. It's not like the situation with the SR-2 and SR-X which were at the time the only OC capable Xeon boards. I have a few design not picks with the Asus and Gigabyte boards, hence why I have been waiting for the SR-3, but the reality is that the setup in my sig (which started off with an SR-2 before I have up on it's many bugs) is still good enough to put off upgrading for another generation if needed.

Snooze and lose. With computer hardware, being a year late to the market means you may well not have a market to get to.

Samsung now produce 32GB 2666MHz 1.2V DIMM M378A4G43MB1-CTD.
192GB RAM Total.
Samsung modules are naked, but XSPC and few other companies produce heatskins for them.

Very nice... suffice it to say, this is not a gamer board. You pay a big premium for ECC capabilities built into xeon processors and boards and it makes sense only when 64-bit computations (or computation of any precision really) must always be 100% accurate and without error...

I used to mine. Now I compute.

At least the sata ports look upgraded, I would of went with more M2 slots, as long as ya can do 128GB ram at lower CL, SLI is dead guys, dual GPU's is plenty, use for crazy multi displays and rendering, theres no point for SLI.

Kingpin will have to "source" it himself given that its almost November and nowhere to be seen... maybe he will charge a premium and include his new pot for the 3175X

It would be nicer with regular finned heatsinks like the old SR-2 but it's not as ugly as the heatsinks on the Z390 dark at least, they look downright awful.

Use a M.2x4 adapter card in an x16 slot, much better than onboard M.2 imo.  Also most systems like this use media (video and sync) and network (10gbe, infiniband, etc.) add in cards not gpu in my experience.

Those quad M.2 cards are nice with Samsung or Intel high-end SSD products with insane speed and capacity.

I’m curious, don’t hate on me for asking, but does either TiN or “Kingpin” have an EE degree?

I understand there are some very smart self-educated folks out there - but engineering this level of board would seem to require some materials science knowledge and circuit design beyond what “self-taught” would realistically provide...

I used to mine. Now I compute.

This is nicest motherboard I ever saw on maret.
I must admit that.
Power Connectors are apsolutely amazing.
I could imagine how this beast look in Lian Li PC-O11 WXC.
Because usually this type of motherboards need huge case.
PC-O11 WXC is not huge, and motherboard fit completely, it's totally exposed and no HDD - SSD Cages to hide any part.
Only motherboard, and exactly space for 360mm radiator above motherboard and below motherboard.
She is wide, but not wide so much to hide all grommets... and rubber could be removed easy.

No better combination. Even pump-res platform if 360mm on top + 240mm radiator on bottom is enough.
It's big advantage because 2/3 of front side is transparent as well and perfect to show beauty of motherboard.
Only GPU should stay in normal position because with Vertical Kit half of mobo is hidden.
I strongly believe SR-3 should be exposed on events in classic Lian Li PC-O11 WX or WXC it's same only with internal USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type C connector.

If EVGA decide to go with horizontal DIMM slots for DDR5 motherboard and similar position of power connectors I will choose their mobo without thinking.
No reason to throw power connectors all arround on every corner of motherboards if cables should be on one side.

KINGPIN will probably use Intel processor worth 11.000$ with 28 cores and 38MB Cache on SR-3.
Luxury computers. Intel Platinum Scalable Processors, 8180 model.

No he won't, lol.

It's not about luxury for Kingpin or Derbauer. They both have a 3175X, right now thats the only high end cpu the extreme oc community care about. Because it's a $3000 Xeon made for enthusiast, not for servers.

I've had my 3175X prepped for the SR-3 for weeks now. Just waiting for EVGA to release it already.

I have no idea but there are board layout programs you can use also I imagine EVGA employs a design team that is unnamed as well :)
