Hi,

I know it's an old board - there may be an opportunity to get one.  I've read some bad reviews as to reliability - and BSODS due to USB 3 - What is the real situation with this board - Thank you.

OK Cool GTX, thanks for the pointers - I altered the time line and had a quick look but there weren't many entries on the thread but I'll check again.

It seems the problem resolved to a degree with a newer version of Windows 10 and any problems after this were fewer than before so it may not be as bad as what some people made out on other forums - as if to say the board would just not work properly.

I had another problem on another board Z97 MSI where the RENESAS USB 3 wouldn't work with the provided driver.  I played around and found another RENESAS DRIVER from DELL & or LENOVO and shortly afterwards the problem was resolved - very odd but I got it working.

All is not lost then - sometimes other people may blow the problems out of proportion and render the board of no use at all by their own review of the situation.

    oh I forgot to ask........
On other X79 motherboards there is Intel Xeon E5 V_0 & V_2 compatibility for the Sandy Bridge and Ivy Bridge processors - Is this the same with the EVGA X79 CLASSIFIED? (I figure it should be)

    Hello again,

OK, it's a number of years old now - It's clear that there were or are problems with this.  I've been busy with keeping an eye on a number of things so the brain is stretched a little so if I cut to the chase with this and ask for some assistance.

After 6 or 7 years since this problem was known about by EVGA is there a reliable fix for people with the X79 CLASSIFIED MOTHERBOARD? -If it's downloading new drivers / flashing BIOS files etc....I can do this but will it work reliably or not?

I could buy one of these right now, that looks in good condition.......but if its a headache please say so - (It looks like it is)__but I may have missed something......Is it worth it? -

OK It seems one or two people have got it working with minimal problems whilst others have still had troubles --I don't know whether this is down to user error and incorrect procedure by people >>>> I know boards / BIOS' / drivers / configuring can be confusing at the best of times !

I have an EVGA x79 classy.
The x79 is a xl-atx motherboard and is huge. Make sure your case will support it.

The Evga X79 Classified is not huge -  - The Evga SR-2 is huge - Thanks for the warning but I'm not worried at all about the size of the Evga X79 Classified, what I am worried about are the USB 3 ports not working but having said that I've downloaded the FW update and will follow it to the tee.
In the meantime please tell me how you get on with your Evga X79 Classified now - Have you got the USB 3 problem under control? - It's great to hear from another owner of the board.

    Re: EVGA X79 CLASSIFIED 2019/09/28 21:24:07 (permalink)
I bought the 1st one used, had a couple bent pins. All the USB ports worked fine. Can't say there was an issue with them.
I had a heck of a time with the pcie slots, the top slot always worked but the others worked off and on, mostly off.
So I used it as a dedicated folding at home BOINC data work box. I had one GPU and an i7-4930k
I remote into the system and set it to do what I needed and just let it run headless with no monitor or keyboard.

Then someone on this forum sent me a nice clean x79 classy set up for water cooling, 3960x CPU, chip-set water blocks and all.
Going to swap that out with an Asus x79 WS board I have running on a water loop.
The old x79 classy to the recycler or hung on the wall as an art piece. Too big a board for just one GPU.
I have no doubt it works just fine, the guy just upgraded to x99, it was working fine when he shut it down.
Hope to get the swap done soon. The Summer is car season for me doing car shows and cruise ins so I have not done it yet, too busy.
Going to run 3 AMD radion 280x GPU or two GTX Titan 6gb, will run BOINC on that box for sprints & challenges.

    Re: EVGA X79 CLASSIFIED 2019/10/15 05:29:26 (permalink)
    Hello again,

Recently I've bought 4 EVGA motherboards - 2 used - 2 new - One of the boards is a used EVGA X79 CLASSIFIED - I've just received this now.

Usually when I get a board I give it a once over especially if it's a used board which this one is.

I can tell there is some damage to the pins of the socket - whether this affects the board or not I do not know yet.

On other boards I've bought such as a Gigabyte board I've returned the board for an RMA (at my cost)__and had a new socket put on - Gigabyte either did put a new socket on or they gave me a new board that was left over.

AsRock do not have a "new socket" service but did offer a new board believe it or not !!!. - All good service

Do EVGA have a new socket service so I could RMA the board and have a new socket put on.  I know it's an old board but it's usually £30 GBP or $ - Which I would do if the service is available because then it would be like a new board even if it is an old board - and I will be keeping this (if it works)__LOL

Anyhow please message to say whether this is an option or not because if it is I'd jump at it (at my cost)___Thanks

Several years ago during a step-up on my X79 Classified to an X79 Dark, EVGA said that my X79 classified had socket damage (I sent it out in pristine, working condition).

They charged me an $80 fee to repair it in order to process the step-up.

I do not know whether or not EVGA still offers that socket repair service. You can ask them directly as this is primarily a user to user forum - https://www.evga.com/about/contactus/

EVGA dose Not offer Repair service for Out of Warranty product

You will have to find a 3rd part vendor for socket replacement service

3rd party vendor for socket replacement ? - Do you know any?

I've sent  a message to EVGA customer service - I don't expect this to be free - but there are offices in EUROPE - If they don't do a repair I'll see how the board is anyway.

Sometimes a board will work fine with bent pins and other times not - My AsRock x99X Fatality Killer "lost" DIMM channel D1 & D2 due to a clumsy mistake by me ! -  - But the board works in triple channel mode for the RAM so there is no major problem but  it isn't perfect - But I made the mistake so I have to live with it !

I'll get back here later with more info

It isn't shown as supported. https://www.evga.com/support/motherboard/legacy/

Would be best to ask evga support as well... https://www.evga.com/about/contactus/

Thanks for the reply. It is supported even if not listed. The x79 DARK supports E5-1660...it means that the microcode for Sandy-E is in the bios of X79 boards from EVGA.

I updated to 2.08 bios and it worked like a charm. . It idles a little bit to high temp because i'm 50 c° idle with a Cooler Master Lite 240mm AIO. I do need to verify cpu to heatsink contact and do some fine tuning.

    Re: EVGA X79 CLASSIFIED 2019/10/19 13:24:53 (permalink)
    Hello,

Back to my thread again -  - I've heard from Evga about socket replacement and the service center is closed down for non-warranty motherboards - I'll see if I can find a socket replacement specialist but before I do I'll explain what I tried.

The board was put onto the test bench - There were no signs of life in the board until I looked at two jumpers on the lower right of the board - two rows of three pins with both jumpers covering pins 2 & 3.  I re-positioned the jumpers, one of them or both of them and the fans started to turn and there was power through the board but there was no sign of  a POST.

Before I go and try to repair the board would some tech here explain whether those two rows of three pins are to clear the CMOS? - And what other steps I could take to try to get the board to post?

I've currently got another board on the test bench at the moment but I could try this again with some help from the admins here - And maybe the socket isn't totally broken - I've not used an EVGA board yet so there maybe something that I've not come across yet in the makeup of the board - Thanks
