After some kind of update, either Windows or BIOS, the computer's energy consumption became 120 watts instead of 80 watts. What can be wrong? Has anyone come across this? The hardware has not changed. Windows 10-64 bit, 1903 with the latest updates. The last two were deleted, but the problem remained. I did not begin to delete further. I tried on the previous BIOS, the same thing.

Where are you measuring your power consumption? Software reading are not always correct.

I also would want to know how the power is being measured since some times software and green plugs are rounded up and down to give the user a comparison they can visualize like your using the energy of two 60W lightbulbs or ten 60W equivalent LED! You might though want to check the Windows power settings and make sure something didn't get changed and everything is still set up correctly. I would just type "Troubleshoot Settings" in the Windows search bar and then click on "Power" and run the troubleshooter. It will make sure everything is set to help save energy.

Power is measured by a wattmeter in the socket where the system unit is connected.

Check you have C-States enabled in bios and as hoggle mentioned check your powerplan settings if you have high performance enabled your idle draw will go up

Something kicking your gpu out of idle state? Check gpu usage with afterburner or hwinfo64 make sure its not the culprit

I solved the problem: the frequency of the video card's memory was not reset to idle when the vertical frequency of the monitor was 75 Hz. At 60 Hz it worked. The new driver was to blame. Installed the recommended driver and it worked.
