My setup is EVGA x299 Dark + Intel i9-9960x + EVGA CLC 360... no overclocking.
I have seen CPU 32c idle... then up to 75c when doing a heavy 3D render... mostly 40c idle now.

What temps have you all see for i9-99xx?

75C is a little steep for being stock speed. Have you compared the temperature with any other cooler?

I was expecting 60 to 65, so thats why I came on here to ask.

This is a brand new build and the EVGA 360 CLC is the only cooler I have tried. Stock paste that was on the block and finger tight on the screws. No extra hardware was needed to install the 360 on the X299 motherboard. I could try tightening the screws a little more, or remove it and use a third party paste?

LianLi PC011 Air (with plenty of fans)
    cpu i9-9960X @ 3.10GHz (no overclock)
Video EVGA Nvidia RTX 2080 Ti (so it can chew through 3D on the GPU - no overclock)
Motherboard X299 bios 1.18 and EVGA Flow Control v2.0.9.0 / firmware v2.10.0.0 (no tweaks to flow control)
BIOS shows CPU vcore 0.920V and the only change I made was to cap CPU TjMax to 95 and set RAM XMP Profile 3200

I would install the the latest version the flow control software v2.0.9 (if not already installed) and play around with the pump and fan speeds to make sure they increase and decrease accordingly also test by physically feeling the hoses to make sure the coolant is circulating and you can feel the change in the pump speed.

Those temps are actually inline with what you can expect under a heavy load like rendering. Even at stock speeds that i9 9960X puts out some serious heat. I have an i9 7960X which is for all intents and purposes identical to your i9 9960X save for you having a soldered IHS. You can and should try adjusting the voltage manually in the bios as this will help bring temps in line. For instance my CPU was taking 1.227v at stock speed under load and that's just not required really. I was able to undervolt it to 1.175v and it ran stable I then decided to overclock it on the same voltage and it can actually run 4.6Ghz with that same voltage. My temps were getting out of line (mid 90'sC under load) with the 1.227v that I was using figuring that it was it's stock voltage. After reading around and seeing people undervolting and then overclocking these CPUs I figured I'd try it myself and what a difference.

I only recently installed Flow Control and it is version 2.0.9. The only change I made in there was disabling auto fan control, so that the fans would run 100%.

Its a clever idea, to undervolt the CPU. I am changing vCore from 1.825 to 1.800 and leaving the rest auto to see how it performs. Looks like I can go down to 1.700 minimum. Also after looking elsewhere, I changed TjMax to 85 per Intel recommendation. So far its behaving at 30c idle now. I'll try that heavy render again to see what it does.

What you need to be concerned with is Vcore under load, that's what matters most and can vary dramatically depending on the Load-line Calibration (or Vdroop) setting..Leaving the LLC/Vdroop on [Auto] usually applies way more Vcore under load than is needed..More Vcore = Higher Core Temperature and can also get into the danger zone, voltage-wise.

You’re adjusting the CPU voltage input values that is not the same as the core voltage that I’m talking about. You should leave the input value at 1.8 or 1.85v and adjust the core voltage. Try starting at 1.2v core voltage with 4.5Ghz and see how it goes then lower v core if you can.

Thanks for the input. I'll do some more research and play around with settings.

In general, I continue to be impressed by EVGA components, and continue to recommend EVGA every chance I get.
