3 weeks or so into using this new G5 PSU I started noticing a weird noise coming from my case and it would get louder when I moved my mouse. I did some research, found a few tips and the one that made the most sense was to turn off "USB Selective Suspend setting" in advanced power settings. Which did not seem to effect anything... After a while, it just kept making this really high pitch crackling sound at all times. I called EVGA support and found out that you only have 14 days to return a power supply and I was about a week over that. I really just wanted to return it and get something different. Anything to avoid having to deal with reinstalling a power supply again.

The EVGA tech provided me a complimentary advanced RMA because I purchased the PSU directly from EVGA, it was really nice to be provided this service for free and I was grateful. The replacement was quiet right out of the box, I tried messing with the mouse to see if it would trigger anything and it gave me some hope that I got a better one. But I was not convinced yet, so I ran 3DMark Time Spy to get some load on the PSU. On the first run, I could hear a slight clicking sound again. Now when I move my mouse, it makes that high pitch sound that a dot matrix printer has, except not quite as loud. After a few more 3DMark tests, the sound is here to stay and it's louder than the previous one. Also, my overclock's went unstable... I had to pull everything back to near stock.

These sounds started once I started messing with the power supply, that's the only thing that has changed on this computer within the last 3 months. My Seasonic X-1250 does not have this issue, the Seasonic Focus+ 750w didn't have this issue, and a Seasonic Focus+ 850w didn't have this issue. The annoying high pitch sound started as soon as I installed this EVGA power supply. When I advised the second EVGA tech about this issue, he was very adamant that my in house electrical is providing poor or dirty power delivery and that the Seasonic units must have some kind of built in feature to accommodate the dirty power. But he had no problem following the notes from the original tech and processing the return... At this point i'm not sure if i'm going to get to return this power supply for a return... I'm also not sure if i'm going to get charged a 15% restocking fee if it does happen. I wanted to know if there was any way for me to get a different model power supply, just not another G5. According to the last tech, I will need to wait until Monday to hear back on what can be done.

I wouldn't fall for the excuse "house electrical is providing poor or dirty power delivery", not when 3 other power supplies have no issues.

Still waiting on G5 to be fully tested by sites like Tom's Hardware, TPU and johnnyguru. See how they compare G5 build quality to older G2/G3 units.

the whole "mouse moving makes the psu noise"  thing sounds really weird to me......

Almost sounds like some kind of electrical short/ interference from what you're describing.... I got nothing else for you .

I hope you are able to resolve this Rainstryke. I had something like this years ago, with a different brand PSU. I know it can be irritating. GL!

Thank you. Yeah, so far they are basically saying they will take them back but with a 15% restocking fee if the EVGA G5 power supplies don't pass their tests. Not sure if my issue is a part of their test though, i'm thinking it might get caught in an efficiency test, cause it seems like this second one is not as good as the first one.

I would push the ticket up to management (if you haven't already).

Don't forget to write a G5 review on sites like Newegg and Amazon.

Yeah, I just adjusted my Newegg review. I was about to leave one on Amazon but it seems they pretty much lost their credibility when it comes down to looking at their reviews per product somehow the G5 all ready has 4000 reviews. I have seen things like HDTV Antenna's containing reviews for coffee makers.

I sent everything back and it looks like they got the second power supply back on 10/18/2019. Everything is still pending and the RMA says to allow up to 7-10 business days for them to process the refund. So far this process is long and grueling. It would be nice to get some follow-up on it, I still don't know if they are going to waive that restocking fee or not.

I was issued a refund of $119 when the original payment was $132.79 with no explanation of the decision that was made, just a payment refund notice from paypal. Pretty disappointed with the resolution on this one, well since... there isn't one and I was penalized on my return. I don't even know how or why they came to the decision of reducing my return.

Harsh, I would say try and use Amazon every time, their return process never fails.

Probably refunded the MSRP value but no sales tax.

Yeah, Amazon is pretty good with returns for the most part. Next time i'll be waiting out much longer, no more early adopting for me and i'm definitely staying away from the EVGA store going forward.

Quite possible... I think my local sales tax just went up past 10% so I suppose that would get the amount pretty close. If that's it, I am not sure why they wouldn't refund my sales tax...

Looks like you might of been charged 10% restocking fee.

Messed up for a company to charge you restocking fee, when the product you sent back was defective. Glad i buy most of my hardware shipped and sold by Amazon.
