I was planning to upgrade the memory on my EVGA P55 to run virtual machines.

I was trying to upgrade to 16 GB of memory.  However, the system will not POST with the new memory.  I receive BIOS error code 3A.  I have updated to the latest BIOS for this motherboard.  I have loaded and saved optimal defaults afterwards.  The only difference I can see between my legacy and current memory is CAS Latency.  (I am not mixing matching my legacy memory with newly purchased memory.)

System Specs:
Motherboard: EVGA P55 FTW 132-LF-E657-KR
CPU: Intel Core i3-530 Clarkdale Dual-Core 2.93 GHz LGA 1156 73W BX80616I3530 Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics

Legacy Memory: G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Desktop Memory Model F3-10666CL7D-8GBRH CAS: 7-7-7-21

Newly Purchased Memory: G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Desktop Memory Model F3-10666CL9D-8GBRL CAS: 9-9-9-24-2N
(I have 4 sticks of this for a total of 16GB)

When I install the new memory it won't even allow me to BIOS.  It sits unresponsive on EVGA P55 splash screen.  I have also tried single memory sticks in alternate slots but the result is always the same.

Assistance or directing me to the correct memory would much appreciated.

With only your working RAM (F3-10666CL7D-8GBRH) installed, manually set the RAM frequency, timing and DIMM voltage in the BIOS to the frequency, timing and voltage of the new RAM (1333MHz, 9-9-9-24, 1.5V) and with a 2T Command Rate (CMD)..Save & Exit BIOS..Turn off your PC after the OS loads..Install the new RAM..Boot up..See how it rolls.

You could also try a tREF of 7.8Us (or one more notch than it currently is) in the Advanced Memory Settings and/or increasing the SPP Voltage a notch or two and/or increasing the VDIMM 0.1V to 1.6V which is still within JEDEC spec.

    Hi Michael

We can surely help with this issue. First, check to see if you have the latest BIOS for the motherboard. Test each module individually to see if one can work; if not, you may need to send them in to exchange for G.Skill memory model F3-10666CL9D-8GBNT. Older chip sets such as the Intel P55 may have issues with the newer DDR3 modules, so the 8GBNT model should be able to avoid that concern. For any further questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us directly.

    Thank you for choosing G.SKILL

Quality and customer service are our top priorities.
