Im still using my p55 ftw E657 but I want to be able to use usb 3.0 to back up data, what are my options if any? I havent really stayed up with pc components lately so im asking instead of doing research. So what say you? Is there a pci card i can use? Another option? Please link anything if there is thanks.

Cant believe i posted in the video cards area

Alright thanks @ty_ger07 for the links. I had actually looked at amazon initially but wasnt positive what i was looking at.

So next question/issue. It looks like a tight fit for a small pci card in between my 2 graphics cards, would i be able to upgrade my graphics cards to a more modern card? Replacing both for one and if so what would i gain or lose in terms of what a newer card could bring? For instance my pci graphics card slots are PCI-E 2.0 and im sure that newer motherboards have upgraded slots for the newer cards. So how new of a card could i possibly put in this thing but not cripple the graphics card too much (or at all)?

    Edited to add this question......
I  looked at newer cards and saw one im interested in NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 04G-P4-1057-KR but this card says pci 3.0 and my mb is pci 2.0 so does this mean not compatible or i wont get the full benefit of the newer card?

I appreciate any feedback and help. Im not in a place where i can build a new pc so im just looking to get a little more out of mine for now.

    Hello,
Vantec do some good USB PCI-e cards but they are not too cheap - Finding one that carries the full bandwidth is more difficult because 1 x USB 3.0 connector is 5 Gb/s so for for of these it is best to get a PCI-e X4 card that can plug into a PCI-e slot of your motherboard.  As long as you have PCI-e GEN 2 on your board you'll be good -  - I could post a link for Vantec.

Some of the cheaper - EL Cheapo cards are good for basic connection but if you need the bandwidth then check out Vantec or IO Crest. - Thanks

Also keep in mind that you might want to get one that uses an external power source since often you want USB for charging. Also consider one with an internal header for USB 3.0 in case you decide to upgrade your case to make use of 3.0 case headers. Both those shouldn't add that much and are really worth having.

    Thanks to all.

I went with a 2 port usb3.0 card from vantec which had a usb3.0 header on it. This will allow me to put a usb unit on the front panel to be able to get the 3.0 from the front and from behind ( ) my pc.

I also felt a touch of upgrade fever so now i also have a gtx 1650 coming, this wasnt part of the plan and hopefully the new hardware will play nice, i havent had a single issue from this pc since i built it back in the 1800's

I recently bought an X58 board so sought to overcome the limitations brought on by PCI-e GEN 2 and few SATA III ports.

I've only just learned of Vantec and they also have a good RAID card that can be used in SATA mode.

I found it expedient to have several machines on the network so if I need a resource I can find it somewhere

NAS with old rig, ATX box can use 4 disks so it can make do with some 14TB disks
