Something is obviously wrong with the vbios.

So my gtx 1080 ti ftw3 is acting up more than usual. I don't know which fan exactly is doing it. Says fan tachometer in monitor is spiking randomly. I know its not the memory fan. So its either the gpu fan or power fan.
Do I need to do the vbios update?
My version is 86.02.39.01.90
Running latest driver 398.82
Purchased July 1st 2017.
I can't seem to find where evga keeps its vbios download section?
Or is this something not available without contact customer service?

Thanks

No, you don't need the vbios update. The vbios updates listed in this thread are for 1080/1070/1060 only. Try testing the other vbios on your card to see if the fans act up while running off the secondary vbios. Please start your own thread if you need further assistance with your problem.

Hi!
Approximately since December 2017, I began to experience problems rebooting the system when I'm playing.
Games for me are not very important, and I just stopped playing.
But now I need to use unreal engine and my problem has become a real problem for me.

My system:
EVGA GTX 1080 FTW (08G-P4-6286-KR)
ASUS PRIME X299-A BIOS 1401
Intel i7-7820x
CORSAIR Vengeance LPX CMK32GX4M4B3466C16 DDR4 - 4x 8Гб 3466, DIMM, Ret
samsung 960 evo 256gb
samsung 970 evo 500gb
samsung 850 pro 256gb
intel ssd 256gb
intel ssd 80gb
western digital hdd 1000gb 7200 rpm
be quiet! Silent Loop (BW004)
3 X SILENT WINGS 2
Seasonic PRIME 750W Titanium

I participated in the program with gaskets. You sent them to me, and I installed them.
I also updated the BIOS you recommended.

The problem arises only in games and as it seems to me then, when the consumed video memory is more than 3 GB.
Visually, there are no artifacts on the monitor, the computer is simply overloaded. But this is not BSOD. That is, you can not get a memory dump in a fall. And there are no understandable mistakes that happened in the magazine.

I understand that this is like a power supply. But I have one of the best blocks on the market. I can also put the GTX 770 (02G-P4-2773-KR) in place 1080. Then I do not experience a problem with system overload.

I also tried stress tests in AIDA - everything is OK
Tested Memory MemTest86 - everything is ok
I installed the system (Windows 10) from scratch and installed all the latest drivers. It does not help

Tell me what you can do and how to fix my system?

Have you tried to run the card in another pc? If yes, did it also cause another pc other than yours to reboot? If yes, the card will need to be rma'd.

Yes, probably this is the last thing I can do yet to make sure that the problem is in the video card. I'll try to check this in the next couple of weeks.

Hello guys,

I need your help cause I have severly messed up things: last sunday i received my evga geforce gtx 1080 Superclocked gaming, and straight out of the box i applied the flash bios for the thermal problem (i know i know it was just a stupid move...but i was worried and didn't read the part about the cards shipped after november 2016 and how the bios was already applied) so i flash the card with the Primary vbios 86.04.3b.00.82 ). And of course the card's memory clock is stuck at 405 and gpuz didn't recognize my memory type and the bandwidth is divided by 2. I have flashed the card with this 2 bios but without result
 86.04.3B.00.82 and 86.04.17.00.80.

I contacted the evga services and they are asking me for the stock bios (the evga's service answer)

 Hi,

Thank you for contacting Technical Support.
Those bios updates are require for Graphics card sold before November 2016.
Your Graphics card has pre-installed thermal mod and latest BIOS while shipped out of factory.
Could you please let us know the original version of the BIOS, So that we can send you the same.

Regards
EVGA

I'm a little surprised that evga can't grabe the stock bios of this card but whatever. Can someone give me the original bios for this card ? i just hope i didn't completely destroyed the card....

Thanks for the help !

ps: sorry for the bad english, that's not my first langage !

If you remove the backplate on the card you'll be able to see what the original vbios version is by looking at the vbios sticker on the back of the card.

Re: Update 11/9/16 with NEW BIOS - EVGA GeForce GTX 1080/1070/1060 PWM Temperature Update 2018/08/31 17:56:53 (permalink)
So I'm wondering if I need to put in a RMA request for my GTX 1080 SC. I got it when the cards first launched (purchase date 06/28/2016), haven't had a single problem till the past few days. Even though things had been smooth I still updated the vbios on it and had one of the thermal pad cooling kits sent and installed it as soon as that program started being offered to owners.

So now out of no where I'm experiencing the sudden black screen and the fans on the GPU going extremely loud (sound keeps playing just fine) which I didn't even know was a thing until it happened to me and after doing some google searching today and finding quite a lot of posts/info of others that have had this. Today was the second time it occurred and I was playing Path of Exile for about 30 mins when it happened. The first time it happened I wasn't even playing a game. I was on the windows desktop. When it happened this time while playing POE I quickly pulled the side panel off the case and touched the graphics card to see if it was hot because my GPU temps were ~65c or so according to afterburner overlay. I put my finger on the back plate and it was so hot I instantly pulled my finger away. So I immediately flipped the switch on the power supply to shut down. I do not have my card overclocked at all. I have afterburner installed only for monitoring and the overlay. And GPU temps rarely go above 65 C when playing any game. I don't get why this would start to happen out of nowhere after the card being rock solid since I bought it when Pascal cards were launched.

Just wanted to get some opinions, thankfully I'm still under warranty. I purchased the extended 5 year warranty when I got the card, so I have over 1,032 days of warranty coverage left. but before I request a RMA I was curious to hear some thoughts.

Re: Update 11/9/16 with NEW BIOS - EVGA GeForce GTX 1080/1070/1060 PWM Temperature Update 2018/09/09 11:44:06 (permalink)
I was able to test the video card on another computer.
I could play calmly for 30 minutes and I had no problems rebooting the computer.
The computer where I tested it was pretty old. He is about 6 years old but there was a PCE-E 3v
Is the video card definitely not a problem now with my computer reboot?
If there are problems with the power supply after the reboot, there should be a report of a problem with the power supply in the BIOS. There is no such inscription. Does this mean that this is not a power supply unit?
Can the problem with the motherboard cause such a failure? Visually, there are no problems.
Let me remind you. The computer just reboots in the games. Загрузка происходит нормально. Memory dumps are not made. This is not BSOD. The problem is only with loads in games. Temperatures at me normal.

Hello,

I have this evga graphic card EVGA GTX 1080 SC 08G-P4-6183-KR:

Until some days ago I was in windows 7 64 bits  and the bios of the graphic card it was : 86.04.3b.00.82

1 week ago I installed windows 10 pro 64 bits and now when I use gpu-z I can see the number graphic card is a little bit different: 86.04.60.00.82

If I have not changed the graphic card bios, why appears different?

Maybe it has something to do with the different gpu-z versions, or maybe someone else flashed the card? Does anyone else have access to your pc?

Hi,

Nobody has access to my pc.

In nvidia panel appears 86.04.60.00.82, exactly the same than gpu-z.

As I find the vbios 86.04.60.00.82 weird, what I have done is change the vbios to the one that came from the factory : Primary BIOS (86.04.3b.00.82)

Downloaded from here

Now the vbios appears correctly, the one he brought from the factory

Hello again,

Now, after change to Primary BIOS (86.04.3b.00.82) all games goes about 20 fps. This is not normal. I don´t know what to do.

In gpu-z memory type appears unknown and gpu memory clock is always in 405 mhz.

I need help

Edit:

Now I know what it happens.

I purchased the card in amazon. Graphic card gave me problems. That graphic card had a stick with bios 86.04.3b.00.82

I requested a replacement from Amazon. This new card has a stick with bios 86.04.60.00.82

I want to apologize for my forgetfulness and confusion.

I have returned the vbios 86.04.60.00.82 using nvflash64.exe and 202927.rom from techpowerup and now everything has returned to normal

Really sorry

Hey, someone help me?
I have the 08G-P4-6284-KR - EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 FTW DT ACX 3.0 but both vbios that i installed keep giving me blackscreen. I am from Brazil and customer suppor for brazil sucks hard. I always used to buy evga cards, but now i am thinking twice.

I do want to install the thermal pads, only in last case.
Thanks
