I just purchased the Dark x299 if im using two sticks of ram with the new i9 10980xe will it be the Skylake x Dimm slots ?

Two sticks? It's quad channel and the new CPU won't magically require different slots lmao.

I've got a suggestion, do some research and have a basic understanding of x299 before buying a 10980xe/x299 dark cuz you're obviously not buying it for what it's intended for.

RAM - Population rules will not change

Quad channel is Faster & requires 4 RAM sticks

Enjoy your New Build

What is the reason you chose the Dark over the FTW K ?  The way it Looks or Features ?

The dark mobo pcb has dimm 1 and 2 marked Skylake x only and dimm3 and 4 both cpu's.
I have purchased a set of 4 x 4133mhz ram sticks as I know that quad is faster what interested me was what would be the reason for only running Dual?
Cool Gtx i like to overclock, tinker and leave my PC crunching numbers when im not busy but the board does look cool 🙂

The board also supports Kaby Lake-X CPUs, which only support dual-channel.  That's why the other DIMMS are marked Skylake-X only, as that processor family supports Quad-Channel.

Thanks for the info read through the above then seen your post Lee M .
I'm used to the i7 dual channel where less populated dimm slots can help squeeze that extra 100mhz lol

And that's why the DARK boards support only one full channel of memory, so that memory performance ends up being much higher across the board.

I don't see any information regarding the allocation of the additional 4 PCIe lanes on X229 Dark from the new i9-10 series.
What is the allocation of the additional 4 PCIe lanes on X229 Dark from the new i9-10 series.
Will X299 Dark be able to use the additional 4 PCIe lanes on X229 Dark from the new i9-10 series at all or is there a hardware limitation?

It doesn't have them hooked up to anything.  Essentially if you install a 10th gen Cascade Lake X CPU into the slot you'll only get 44 PCIe Lanes.  The motherboard should still support the new processors physically with no issues.  Will probably require a bios update though.

Hello.
Bios 1.19
After wakes Windows 10 from sleep, any custom settings (PCH temperature sensor for me) of the 80-port LED display reset to defaults (BIOS only). Also wakening, value of sensor PCH temrerature in HWiNFO64 (only this utility and BIOS sees chipset sensor) show is zero. Re-detect sensors is completely lost it.  Restarting the computer fixes everything.

Aw man, got the X299 dark and 10900x incoming! Can't wait to boot this thing. The CLx lineup/performance (needed the 40+ lanes) is sad but evga's x299 dark was just too good to pass :)

Let's hope all goes for the best when updating the bios!

Cheers!

Hey people!

I've always been an Asus rampage guy since 5-10years. This time around i went with the x299 dark because you know the build quality is outstanding (bulldozoid). One question here. I'm about to get this board and 10900x installed and from what i've read, i won't be able to get into windows with this cpu because of the native bios which would be 1.00? (the one evga ships their mobos with). I already got the 1.19 bios update needed. From past experience, i would only put the ".cap" file (asus mobos) on the fat32 usb key and that would be it. Now for evga can i just put the "1E299119.bin" file ? Or i have to also put the two folders called "fptdos", "fptwin" and the "update.bat" file ?. Note that i'll be updating straight from bios since i won't be able to get to windows.

Thanks for the input!

Quick question.

If X299 Dark is on bios 1.00 would it get to bios while a 10900x is installed or i would need to use an old cpu just to get to the bios ? I’m stuck on « dF » post code and i’m trying to figure the cause before jumping to conclusions of a dead cpu and/or mobo.

HI, I have ATX micro 2 and i have problem with 10920x and BIOS update. Naturally, the board gets up but gives the "dF" postcode and 3x bip, so I decided to do a BIOS update without the CPU (manual pages 127 - 128).
Unfortunately, the board does not want to update the BIOS, CMOS button and removing the battery did not help before the update.
After starting the update process, the BIOS returns the error code "F" which is not in the manual. I've reworked all combinations with various power supplies and cables - no effect.

Did you have such a situation? Do you know what to do with it?

Since post code F doesn't seem to be a valid post code you should contact evga support to see what they have to say about it. https://www.evga.com/about/contactus/
