Decided to build a new rig because......well, reasons? Actually the real reason is I found a hell of a deal on the CPU and board combo on OfferUP. Got them both for $600 When I first saw the ad I didn't think it was for real but I figured I had nothing to lose so I shot the guy a message asking if it was available. Turns out it was a woman who recently got a divorce and apparently the ex husband left these parts behind and never came back for them. She said she never wanted to see him again and didn't care and just wanted to be rid of them. I happily obliged her needless to say and now they are mine. They were brand new still in box too LOL Anyway specs are: i9 7960X @4.6Ghz ASUS X299 Prime Deluxe RTX 2080 Ti FE 32GB G.Skill Trident Z RGB 3600Mhz EVGA SuperNova 1000w PSU Phanteks P400 And one with the added RGB flow meter 😂

Thanks, and yeah I know. Though to be honest at the resolution I play at I really can't see a difference.

Reinforced braided vinyl tubing. I got it at a local Lowes https://www.lowes.com/pd/EASTMAN-5-8-in-x-20-ft-Reinforced-PVC-Braided-Vinyl-Tubing/1000364783 TBH I only picked it up because I couldn't find any 3/8in ID 5/8in OD clear tubing locally so I picked up what was available. Now after installing it I think I like it better since the RGB lights catch the braids in the tubing and shimmer.

It was fine to build in for the most part. My only real complaint is that I wish tehre was more room at the top of the case where I have one of my radiators mounted. I was hoping there would be a little larger space at the top. But it was hard to tell from newegg pictures when I ordered it so whatever I guess The power supply bay I didn't have any issues with but that's probably due to the fact that my PSU is actually rather short for a 1000w unit. It's the EVGA G3 SuperNova.

Sajin Congrats. Your 9900k was better for gaming.
But i9-7960 is better in every other situation except gaming, his dominance in other application is far above dominance of i9-9900K in gaming. To bad you didn't found EVGA X299 Dark instead ASUS X299 Deluxe. But important to work.

Yeah I know. Though with the top mounted radiator right in front of the VRM heatsink there is plenty of air moving across it to keep it in check. So far the hottest I've seen the VRM get is 80C.

Run the blender benchmark utility and see how your vrm temps look :) also the Asus vrm sensor is on the pcb at the edge of the vrm array the temp is not from the vrms themselves. All their IR3555 designs are like that so reported temps must be taken with a grain of salt.

The 80C I quoted was during a stress test using prime95. Ran it for 2 hours as I usually do with my overclocks to check for stability. a213m What's your max coolant temperature under load?
I don't have a temp probe in my loop.

That's DDC Pump? Some DDC Pump have only 3pin connector, without 4pin Molex for power, Koolance PMP-400 example. I think that's Laing DDC 3.25 18W, they are weaker then DDC Pumps with 3pin header and 4 pin Molex? If they are same power why people not prefer them?

Decided to add a flow meter.....and what flow meter would be complete if it wasn’t also RGB? Also thinking about popping the top on this 7960X and applying some liquid metal to keep it cooler. It’s getting to 95C as it is on the hottest core. If I can drop another 10-15C I may be able to get a couple hundred more Mhz out of it.

Nice looking build!
Man, that is an awesome deal on that CPU motherboard combo, even better story behind it lol. I really like the X299 platform. Definitely pop the top on that CPU, I did that to my i7 7820X and it runs sooo much cooler. The factory thermal paste is a joke, it's really bad... I used to have major heat issues on long gaming runs... I don't think I've seen it break past high 70's since the delid. I didn't do the liquid metal even though I have some... That stuff gets super messy and I always seem to screw up the portion I should be using... I just tossed some MX4 on it and still saw a 10C-15C drop.

I don't recommend the cheap kits off Amazon, they are made from a 3D printer and the quality is poor, my rockit kit broke while attempting the delid. I heard the pop and thought I got it, but the pop was the screw threads. I got annoyed and just wanted it done, so I did it with a vice. This was the method I used: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fo1KzqCQurk

No problem! To be honest, I messed up the first delid I attempted on a i7 3770K, accidentally snapped a transistor off the bottom because I was trying the vice method with a wood block. I don't recommend that one... Someone on this forum told me to try an RMA on it, so I glued the IHS back on and started up a RMA... To my surprise, I got a replacement from Intel.
I watched a few delid video's to get an idea of how others are doing it. I grabbed some of my wife's clear coat nail polish to apply around the chip since there are some small solder points in there that thermal paste could bleed onto if you accidentally apply too much. I didn't glue the IHS back on because the thermal paste under the IHS will need to be reapplied every few years and the CPU socket on the motherboard puts plenty of pressure on it to be effective.

Yeah I was doing some reading about the process and how liquid metal does need to be reapplied after some time. If I’m gonna do it I’m gonna go all the way lol. I’m just not 100% I really want to. I’m confident I can do it but then again confidence only gets you so far when risking a $1500 CPU lol

Haha, definitely understand that. Even with the cheapest 2066 socket CPU sitting around $600 MSRP, it really makes you wonder why they skimped on the thermals. It's disappointing we even have to do this to make the processor run at decent temps.
