Hello, I have and issue with the Z97 XMP memories, there are Corsair Vengeance XMP 2400 DDR3 with a EVGA MB Z97 Classified, EVGA power supply 1000W, and CPU Intel 4790K. is my son computer, he wanted to change the case for RGB Thermaltake 20 Plus. Everything was running fine on the old case, move all the hardware to the new case ever since can't get it to run the XMP memory to 2400mhz. code shows 55 means no memory install. if I drop it to 1600mhz it work find, I test all memories and are fine. When I go to bios to set them up shows voltage at 1.43 when it should be showing 1.65 as per memory spec.  I first I did it with profile-1 no luck, then I did it manually no luck there. After I run it on 1600mhz and go back to bios it shows 1.65v but when I try to set it to profile-1 will go to code 55 and start a cycle of off and on for ever. Hope someone can help me with this issue, I would appreciate. Thank you in advance.

Something may have jostled loose or become mispositioned during the case swap..Reseat the RAM..Also, the memory controller is built into the 4790K CPU, reseat the CPU too if reseating the RAM doesn't help..Roll from there.

bob16314, I did all that several time believing that would solve the issue but nothing, pull memory out three time and move them around in different slot same issue, did the CPU twice same thing, I make sure no bend pin in CPU everything looks good on CPU.

You state one bios will not post at 1.65 volts but another will. I would try clearing the cmos while in the first bios or even reflashing that bios.

    Just from swapping cases, huh?..Weird.

Just for kicks and if you haven't yet, I would populate only 1 bank at a time and see how it rolls..Bank 1 is physical slots 1 and 3, with 1 being the closest to the CPU..Bank 2 is physical slots 2 and 4.

Make sure the frequency, timing and voltage is set manually (not an X.M.P. profile) to the RAM mfgr's specs and with a 2N CMD (Command Rate) instead of 1N which it may default to.

If still no joy, take the mobo out of the new case and fire it up on a table and see if that matters.

bob16414, That's correct just swapping case, is all I did. I will try doing the slot one at a time as you mention see what happens. But I did try doing it manually not XMP at all, If I go to bios now it shows 1.65v, running at 1600mhz, but when I change it to 2400mhz as per spec, it goes into code 55, when I get back into the bios it only shows 1.43v insufficient to run the memory. If I set it at Auto only read 1300 at 1.43v on the CPU-Z software. I did take out the CPU and reset it, no problem there. At 1600mhz run with no problem at all, my son games with and has no issue, but I hate to think that I paid for Corsair Vengeance 2400mhz @ 1.65v and only can run it @ 1600mhz. @ 1.43v. I am suspicious about the MB is the issue. Thanks by the way.

So if you manually set the voltage to 1.65v it still shows 1.43v?

Sajin, that's correct it goes back to 1.43v and jump to code 55, just get into a cycle of Off and On. That's on Auto mode, but if I set manual I can get it to 1600mhz in 1.43v, if I go back to bios you'll see it at 1.65v @ 1600mhz.

Hmm. What happens if you try to set it to 1.70 or 1.75?

Well did the test, use one slot and memory at the time, no luck there. increase voltage to 1.70 and 1.75, no luck there. But this time I got it to post and run stable at 2133mhz the voltage at Auto. Did try all setting on bios 1-2-3, it appears that 1 and 2 can't get past 1600mhz. and on 3 is stable at 2133mhz, I did reflash bios and still same issue. Sound to me like a bad bios chip. Any suggestion?

2133 @ 1.65v? If yes, sounds like you're pretty close to getting it to work at the full 2400. To get to 2400 you may need to increase the imc (integrated memory controller) voltage of the cpu.

It might also be worth trying Sajin suggestions on one stick at a time. You one of the sticks isn't stable while the others are.

Just to poke my head in here. Delgado are you sure there are not other XMP profiles? Both of my DDR3 kits have multiple XMP profiles with the same speeds but the only thing that changes is the voltage.

Another option is to use CPU-Z to pull the XMP data from your memory kit. From the main screen you can select tools, and save report as either txt or html. There will be far more profiles in there than you will see in the UEFI, you can find the one you need for 2400MHz, and then manually use the timings it shows to configure your RAM manually. There is no way DDR3 will run at 2400Mhz with 1.43v, depending on your module configuration it will probably need 1.65v minimum. I'd be careful going beyond 1.65v, last I heard voltages above that are out of spec for Intel's CPU IMCs and can cause damage after long-term use.

My DDR3-2400Mhz kit wouldn't run at all on Z97, but I use a 32GB config so that's why. I still had to manually tune it to get it to run stable beyond 1600Mhz.

kougar, I am aware of the info on CPU-Z the issue I have I can't get it pass 2000mhz at 1.65v while the memory are spec out for 2400mhz at 1.65v, when I increase to 2400mhz 1.65v it gives me error code on the bios 55 no memory install. Yes I did try all the XMP files on the info on CPU-Z none of them works for me, Is a shame the I bought this memory to run them at 2400mhz, I can only run them 2000mhz while on the other case was running perfect at 2400mhz. Just can understand what could be causing this problem. Sajin I did as per your comment (VSA and VCCOIO at 1.20v) and had no luck with it. Any other suggestion, Thanks to you all for the help.

Yeah that's weird if all you did was swap cases..I still think you should take the mobo out of the case and fire it up on a table and see how it rolls.

I like to do that, but is my son computer and he need it for college, I can't shut it down or pull the motherboard out for a long period of time, hoping I solve this problem without pulling thing apart. Is running good, but sure like to get it at 2400mhz. I will be building him a new one in a couple month from now.

Hmm. Maybe your cpu imc just can't handle 2400 MHz. 1.2 VSA & VCCIO is more than enough for 2400 MHz.

Sajin, I had it running before on the other case at 2400mhz 1.65v without any problem.

Right, but maybe the cpu can't handle it anymore.

Yes, as the cpu is only spec'd to handle 1600. Anything over 1600 is overclocking and isn't guaranteed.

This is especially true if the user or the motherboard itself are overvolting the IMCs, or the RAM above 1.65v. Subzero benchers regularly burn out or damage the IMCs on Intel chips from pushing the memory clocks to the limit. It is why I am leery about automatic overclock settings on boards, it is in mainboard manufacturers best interest to be generous with the 'auto' voltages to ensure stability even on below-par CPUs. Still weird it occurred during a case change...  same PSU right? You could try remounting the CPU in its socket as maybe one of the pins isn't making quite as good contact after the jostling? Far-fetched guess though.

At any rate 2000Mhz vs 2400Mhz isn't tangible outside of benchmarks, I wouldn't worry to much about it. You can almost certainly tighten the memory timings manually and that will get back most of the performance difference anyway. Dropped mine from CL11 to CL8, then kept dropping all the subtimings until I found the limits of stability. I'd recommend ya just go this route, especially since you're building a new one soon.
