Looking forward to the update

Will do, I may be delaying the hard tube swap for a bit to fully figure out what to go with and if I want to do stuff like switch to a flat res/pump combo etc.  I found a have a few feet of soft tubing left, and I have about 90% of a bottle of Modwater still so I can drain some out, get the new GPU plumbed in, and refill and at least have something usable for a few weeks.  Even though I think I either have something growing or some kind of weird fallout (slightly hazy fluid or haze buildup) and maybe the bottle of fresh fluid will help kill anything that might be growing as well.  Then I can break everything down fully and really clean everything out.  Might get a blitz part 1 kit for the rads just to make sure it's not coming from there.  Or at least try a heavy vinegar:water ratio and let it sit for a few hours

Yep, I think I have a better handle on what to do now at least as far as the tubing and fittings.  Going to go either 14 or 16mm with acrylic tubing and apparently getting the same brand for both is the safe way to go.  I also think the issue I heard about tubes not fitting is a US vs metric issue.  One instance I remember was a Jazytwocents vid where he was having issues with 12mm tubes fitting in some primochill fittings he had for a while.  Well, apparently primochill uses or used US measurements being a US company so they were a hair smaller than actual 12mm tubes or something.  The 16 vs 14 is where I'm having some debate with myself.  Current soft tubing is 16 but sometimes I think it looks a bit thick, performance PC's was suggesting to stay with 16mm for my case, but someone at modmymods who is building a system in my exact case thought 14mm was a perfect fit, so it's definitely subjective and gonna be up to me lol.

I'm probably going to at least buy a new pump since the current one is coming up on 3.5 year of 24/7 use and then keep the current one as a backup.  If I'm going to do that it would be the perfect time to look into a flat res or something as well like the EK flat res/pump combos.  Since I have the extra tubing and fluid for now, I have plenty of breathing room to at least get the new GPU in while I plan the cooling upgrades.

GPU block is here. Super impressed with the shipping from Europe. Thought it was going to be next week.  I liked the hydrocopper block on my 2080 Super until I realized you can’t take them apart very easily to clean and I think that’s responsible for some of my fluid issues right now. Like screws are apparently under glued down LED strips and the logo on the ports block has to be peeled off to get to screws as well. So I’m looking forward to a block that can be more easily maintained.

Well, now Cablemod's US store screwed me over.  The 12vhpwr cable I ordered on Monday with two day shipping was sent from Florida to California via Amazon for some reason, and also said it was going to be here today Saturday which was bad enough since it was supposed to be 2 day shipping.  The tracking hasn't updated with any location info since Tuesday except tonight it says it's being delivered by another carrier.  I assume probably USPS as our Informed Delivery is showing they're expecting a package and there's no delivery date etc. there either.  I emailed them to at least get a shipping refund.  Guess I should have ordered direct on Amazon when I found they sold there as well after I saw the Saturday date on Tuesday or Wednesday.  I would have had the cable by now at least from Amazon.

Gigabyte Gaming OC 4090 is waterblocked (my first time actually putting a block on) and working great so far.  I definitely need some loop upgrades now like probably swapping the 30mm 420 to a 45mm.  Also need to get some new fans, my 3ish year old Fractal Prisma AL PWM 120/140's have at least 2 with dirty bearing that make a random ticking.  Not really sure what to go with now.  At one point was going to cave and go Corsair, then was hearing good things about the Lian Li unifans especially V2 but then heard in the same review the V2's are limiting in their cable lengths which are proprietary.  So if anyone has suggestions on what to go with they'd be welcome.  Anyway, pics.......  Using a premade cablemod PSU cable that matches part of my custom ones.  Their custom factory is down until February for their annual upgrades.

Thank you!  So, do you think the cables will be long enough for my setup?  Full tower Phanteks case with fans front, bottom, top, and rear?  I figure I'll probably end up with 2 of the Corair control boxes anyway (not sure how many they can run) so maybe that will help.  Will need 10 fans.

I have a Corsair 5000X PC case. Three fans in the front and I have these connected to the Corsair RGB hub and Commander Pro for fan power. You can use fan splitter cables and run two fans off each splitter. In this youtube video you can see the approximate size of the cables as he lays them down:

Not sure if you need RGB, but I just got two of the be quiet! Silent Wings 4 Pro 120mm fans and they're unbelievably good. I have them on my 3080ti radiator and they move a considerable amount of air. Also, at full speed (3000rpm) they are not obnoxiously loud at all. Basically just whirring air noise. At lower speeds they're practically silent in the case. Super high quality, but with that comes a bit of a high price. I'm not really complaining, but I probably would if I had to order more than 2 of them lol. I've read good things about their light wings fans too, but they opt more for RGB than airflow so they're definitely not quite as good performers as the SW-4.

Re: Flyinion's "Zen Build" 2023/01/18 23:12:35 (permalink)
Thanks everyone.  Sounds like I may end up with Corsair then as I'd like to maintain the RGB I currently have.  I don't necessarily need it on my bottom rad though so I could put Noctua or BeQuiet down there.  Currently running some Fractal fans down there right now but non-RGB since they're in push and you wouldn't really see any light through the rad and I didn't really need "underglow".

Also had a nice little scare earlier.  I knew my cablemod 12vhpwr cable was fully seated in the GPU, tested multiple times.  However, apparently one of the connectors on the PSU side was not fully latched in.  I decided to check after having an article pop up in my Google feed about someone's Cablemod cable melting because they didn't fully seat it in the GPU.  Same article had a link to their guide on how to make sure you've seated it properly and I decided to look anyway and it mentions the PSU side.

I'm sitting there thinking, I was kinda in a rush yesterday when I pulled the GPU and put it back in the loop after checking the block was properly tightened to the card again.  Part of that was also redoing my cable management for the power cable and I'd disconnected it for that and also to refill my loop.  I popped the back of the case off and checked tonight and one of them came out with a little tug.  Pretty scary since I had a long but medium power gaming session last night, plus ran a bunch of stress tests, then ran a 30 minute OCCT Power test tonight before checking that cable.

Yeah no kidding, at least with a GPU it's easily visible and more likely to notice if it gets hot and starts melting.  On the PSU side you might not notice it until it's way too late.

Yep, my main reason for using it is because I didn't want to use that ugly adapter.  Having a direct connection to the PSU is nice as well of course.
