Hey all

it's all been some time ago I did a decent topic here at the EVGA forums, well this one is of course 3dfx related, it just happeend to me that I kind of missed my old thing with 3dfx Voodoo cards in it'swhole the regrets kind of killed me and so I went out loooking for parts what to come with this time and I wanted it to be a different kind of system and 3dfx 355 Avenger related yes 3dfx Voodoo3 my friends :)
So after finding the mainboard CPU ram CPU Cooler and some other needed things, last night my friend SWZSSR helped me get a mint in box 3dfx Voodoo3 3500 TV AGP 16MB via ebay, even I told him you really do not have to o this but after I sold almost everything to him for good deals and I found hima working Voodoo5 6000 AGP 128MB Rev.A 3700 in like 3 days due to my large array of 3dfx internal contacts he did me a favor back

And well that was always one of my favorite 3dfx cards of all time of not my favorite production card of all time with the Voodoo5 5500 PCI Macintosh with PC Bios 1.18DVI hehe Okay the 6000 was also way cool hah but yeah who knows someday right Yea riiight lol

So yeah here the photo's then since most of the parts did arrive and the quality is mind blowing, you guys are gonna love it, I am sure of it !

Here the mainboard the EPoX EP-8K7A+ all it's capacitors ,VRM's & Mosfets have been cleaned & renewed and it's as if it was build yesterday, yet it's from Week 28 Day 03 of the year 2001 so pretty retro alright :-)

This entire set was all together 74 Eur incl shipping from Germany to Netherlands which contains the following parts:

AMD AthlonXP-M 2800+ Barton @ 2133Mhz, 512KB L2 Cache and 266Mhz FSB
2x 1GB PC-2700 333Mhz DDR@ 266Mhz DDR from Kingston, not HP as I thought it was hah xD
EPoX EP-8K7A+ Mainboard fully recapped + renewed & cleaned mosfets & VRM's
Belkin NEC 5 port USB 2.0 PCI Card
ZyXEL 11G WLan PCI Card
Socket A Coolermaster like cooler with copper base and aluminum fins looks decent for now

All that for 74 euro was one hell of a find and in such great quality as well, super rare for 2019 that be true!

VIA VT1611A Sound chip & Socketed Award Bios Chip upgrade, it was Eprom before as the traces clearly show:

Here the PCB date of theEP-8K7A+ reading 0128-3 meaning it's from Year 2001-Week28-Day 03, means it was made on a Wednesday :D

After a friend from Voodooalert pointed out that my socket had these wires applied to mod the system with an18x multiplier they advised e to remove them:

Here the removed wires, apparently the seller only had 3 of 5 mounted

And hear the cleaned socket, no more odd wires:

Here the added accessories that came with the system board CPU, System ram & CPU cooler.

Belkin NEC 5 port USB 2,0 PCI Card

it's so Bluuueeeee!

And this ZyXEL W-La card that came with the package, I won't use this though, got my trusty old 3-Com PCI card for this wired of course, but here it is anyway:

Here the CPU that came with this set:

AMD AthlonXP-M 2800+ Barton @ 2133Mhz, 512KB L2 Cache and 266Mhz FSB:

This is a very rare and wanted CPU but since SWZSSR helped me with getting that V3 this is my honored gift to him as I have no use for it and he does all cool there then :D

Here the parts I will use instead of the CPU & W-Lan PCI card:

AMD AthlonXP 2200+ Thoroughbred-A @ 1800Mhz, with 256KB L2 Cache and a FSB of 266Mhz DDR:

This is the max supported CPU for my EP-8K7A+ mainboard

3-Com 3C-905C-TX-M 10/100Mbit Ethernet PCI Card with hardware Wake on Lane Support:

My good old Plextor PlexWriter PX-48/24/48A CD-RW drive:

Here that mint in box 3dfx Voodoo3 3500 TV AGP 16MB (PAL) that my friend SWZSSR helped me obtain:

it's 100% complete and almost as good as new, or say very well preserved and cared for:

this was around 308 USD for me to get it's very rare to find in this quality for under the 310 USD.
Most of these go for well over 450 a 500 USD or even more, it was a golden find this 20 year old graphics card, a true collectors item as well:

The pics are from the seller, I will make better ones once it arrives, as I always do with everything I get here hehe

    Here the rear view:

    The original price is also still found on the box, since there is a D-Mark & Euros value on the box;
549D-Mark which  was back then equivalent to 280.69 Eur which would of been around 311.24 USD.
So due to that find, I am thinking this is one of the last 3dfx cards sold around 2001 to 2002!

That to which a very cool indication what a high end 3dfx card from 1999 was valued at.

3dfx Quick Install Installation CD, still sealed so to see:

3dfx Quick Install full sized manual:

    3dfx Quick Install mini booklet:

3dfx registration card , still unused, well filling this in now 20 years after this card was made doesn't have much use hah :D

    Here pics of the card:

the card is also very clean looking and it's been well cared for <3 :)
So yes I a very proud and amazed I found this card in such a good pristine state and for such a good deal.
Something like this is very hard to come by these days, considering it's a 20 year old mint in box 3dfx card.

    Top view:

    Rear view:

3ft IO pod & cable this part is vital as you need to connect your monitor to this as well

Many more to come the pics I used are from the seller, so they were used for reference my photo's will be much nicer and of course I will happily upload them too once the other parts come around!
All this for the love of 3dfx Interactive and retro gaming in it's whole, this will be one hell of a ride and follow me down memory lane once more but now it's a good 20 years ago :)

Some people asked me hay Goldie what card did you buy in 32019.. Oh a 3dfx Voodoo3 3500 TV AGP 16 MB mint in Box from 1999 , a 20 year old Graphics card basically haha
    Whaaa Zaaa  xD

That was just funny all round, their faces in general man, loved it.
So as my main OC Frostora a Legendary Frozen Feathered Novaraptor from Primal Carnage Extinction, I just waved as in hi guys yaps go'n back to Voodoo Land  xD

    Ooooiiiiyyy

Many thanks man, yeah it's all a matter of time now, just have to wait till the packages arrive so everything is here , just easier to work with then :)
Won't be that long I am thinking, V3 is coming from Austria and the AXP 2200+ from the UK, Still no Brexit yet so no custom taxes from UK either so that's nice still hah

But that will change once Brexit happened many think here in the EU.

Thanks guys I'll do my best with this one just waiting for that V3 3500 TV AGP from Austria and that AXP 2200 + from the UK to arrive then I can start doing the real work hah :)

The case will be the Addtronics 6896A from 1999 which is also part of my Descent/Freespace game collection.
And I also have some original 3dfx & AMD AthlonXP case badges which I will use for the finishing touch.

Them new retro games from 3D Realms could run on this system in theory and I am sure some of my x-3dfx members will find a way to do that hah, aaah if only they added retro OS support too right, would of made more sense imo, can't have everything I guess.

So here it is then my first boxed 3dfx card since 2011 I think it was :)

Major thanks go to SWZSSR for helping me get this card earlier to avoid others from buying it, just perfection at it's best. This V3 3500 was really an emotional catch after having it in my hands again heck I even hugged it for like 15 minutes if not more, got kind of emotional and all.

This is to me the best 3dfx card of all time it had the best image quality even better than that of VSA-100 all because it was not rushed off 3dfx took their time to make this beauty count like all their other cards.

And I know I personally had all the VSA-100 boards the Voodoo4 4500, Voodoo5 5000 AGP & PCI, Voodoo5 5500 AGP, PCI, PCI Mac & Voodoo5 6000 AGP, had em all, but that is kind of irrelevant to this topic.

Every time I start with a 3dfx collection or just a 3dfx related system build the Voodoo3 3500 is always the card I turn back to because this was the one card that gave me my best memories of 3dfx , it was the last true 3dfx card I actually enjoyed. The 3dfx Voodoo5 5500 AGP when I bought it was a DOA, my colleague John B. also had a 5500 AGP and was also a DOA so I always reverted back to the V3 3500 TV AGP.

Anyways it feels great to be back, all that thanks to SWZSSR really

So here the photo's of the box, it does show some wear but overall pretty mint looking!

    rear box info:

Here a nice angled shot of this cool blue box:

Note the original price tag still on the box flap , it was priced at 549 D-Mark / 280.69 Eur back in 2001 which was roughly 312 USD.
This was a late one that sold even it's the oldest Voodoo3 3500 I have ever seen as well PCB date wise:

Box Contents that I neatly displayed:

How the IO pod + Cable & documents were originally packed back in 1999

And here the card right after I cleaned it, making it look like new, even it's actually a 20 year old card!

    rear view:

Here the PCB date of this classic 3dfx 355 Avenger card showing 3199 , this means it was made during week 31 of year 1999, more than 20 years ago!

Here some fun shots I did with my Gemini jets PAA B7347-121 and this 3dfx Voodoo3 3500 TV AGP 16MB Rev.A 3199

Here some artworks I did, from Boeing 747's to 3dfx graphics cards again
First art piece that I also made my signature for this forum :)

    Pan Am & 3dfx

    From Boeing 747 to 3dfx

And there you have it, cleaning the case for this build is next and then slowly I'll build it and move it towards it's completion, so stay tuned for more soon :)

    -----------------------------------------------
So yeah there you have it I'm back finally and it runs so fast too, love this build worked all night on it since the urge to play my 3dfx games is rather high now anyway
Many thanks to SWZSSR for helping me with the Voodo3 3500, that really made this build possible at this early stage

    Here the photos then

Here the PSU I salvaged from my mother's old computer an Antec True Power 550 cleaned it so it's ready for use:

I cleaned it's fan as well:

The PSU is an Antec True Power 500 Watt PSU that I took out of my mom's old Core i3 540 PC xD

Here the Addtronics 6896A Entry Level Server Tower that I used for this build, also custom painted it myself way back in 1999 But pics of that later in this thread:

Also I cleaned this case inside out as well as the outside so it's fresh for this new 3dfx life it will have

Motherboard is neatly installed there as you can see connected the power switch, led's and other IO parts the Flat data cables as well moved on slowly

Flat cables applied for all storage & optical devices

Thermal compound applied on the CPU ready for cooler montage:

Upper storage compartment left is the Western Digital Caviar SE 250 GB HDD 7200 rp right is a Sony 3.5" Floppy Drive

    System build almost complete:

Side panels applied they open up for easy maintenance

After completing the build here a nice last closeup of the cards:

    Here the first boot screen;
And I already knew what was wrong the slave HDD. had the jumper on Master the same as the primary one and that was what caused this flaw to occur.
A Blue Screen of Death During install also happened It seems the floppy drive needed replacing after I did that and reset the jumper of the 250 GB Slave HDD in Slave mode all issues were resolved

So that was fun to find out and get sorted out hah xD

Here the system running with my blue & green led fans all showing a nice clean blue/green glow,

FF means it's stable and ther are no errors happening.
And a nice closeup of the 3dfx logo on that V3 3500 TV:

Here this side's Freespace 2 art I applied three starships from that game
    Shevan Carrier
    Vesudan Dreadnought
    Terran Hercules MK III

Here the Descent 2 Pyro-GX art I also did in 1999, I can't see 3D hence the wonky wings rofl

As for the gap that will be taken care of soon, as I am adding a Creative Labs Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Platinum which has an IO Drive that will fill up that open space neatly, so yeah still gotta work on that part

Here the rear view of this system, all looking neatly there too

And there ya have it guys
But I'll post more pics later on or even a video i of it running some classic games

I worked all night , didn't sleep to get this 3dfx dream PC up and running and so far it has been clear sailing.
Thus I look forward on seeing your reactions!

Many thanks and runs great too

    Here the entire system setup

As you can see I used my Pan Am & 3dfx Wallpaper, suits this system perfectly

Also I have added my 1985 T.rex EPoX Mascot to finish off this entire system

Here the Windows 2000 Professional start menu:

Here some pics of all the installed parts via the Device manager:

And here some screenshots I took of all the 3dfx Tools Options with this Voodoo3 3500 TV AGP 16MB Rev.A 3199:

Here some screenshots I took with Star Wars Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight version 1.01 in Direct3D 6.1 @ 1024x768x16 max in game settings:

Yet I did had to enable V-Sync or I'd get over 400 fps rofl xD
This system I use was a bit too fast for this game, but with the Refreshrate at 85Hz and V-Sync on I get a super smooth 85fps and no more page tearing and over speed gameplay.
It's just butter smooth now and no dips either, just I wanted

More pics to come soon of other games as well, stay tuned for my 3dfx madness

After some cooling advice for my Voodoo3 3500 TV AGP from my friend SWZSSR, I did some modding and applied this side fan and also reversed the fan so it cools the cards, the V3 3500 can go over 85C under load, now it goes more around 60 a 65C under load , a worthy difference for a 20 year old graphics card

There much better now, yet I might exchange the fan with an RGB 120 Mil fan or just a Purple ledded one, just to get some more Mace Windu in there xD
    But yea, all good now

Yeah well it's better than without and it's all I had for now, I know there are slot coolers but I'd lose slots if I'd use those so found two of these in my draw and took advantage of the idea by flipping around the fan so it blows air on the cards and it does do some good :)

Well i did manage to fix that gaping hole in my case :)

I used a plastic 5.25" bay bracket from my Addtronics 7896A to make it neater from the front of this build's Addtronics 6896A :)
So here some pics of this fix:

    Much neater now

And here my 1985 Imperial Tyrannosaurus rex which I use as my EPoX Mascot and also as avatar :)

That brings you back a ways. Nicely done Gold Leader. Is the TV tuner of any use these days? I used to have a ATI Rage way back but never used the tuner. You did a nice job on your art work. Great old school build bud! +1

My guess is it would be pretty worthless for TV since the switch to digital TV tuners happened after this was released.

    Hey thanks!

And yeah this was well worth it though, I still will give it some upgrades, the BTO Cassette Deck Tape Plyaer/recorder & Convertor & the side fan case mod were applied this round, but an Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro is also planned, but for starters I'll stick to just the Audigy 2 ZS card it's self, anything is better than the onboard and then save up for the Platinum pro version for a later add on for this system :)
Even thought it's on board VIA 616 AC'97 isn't too bad really, so this will have to do for now
The TV-Tuner worked fine to around 2017, by then everything went 100% digital and analog wasn't doable anymore.

Yeah all digital here but it does work tho as functionality goes, but I did do some mods to the case with my dad ell he did the drilling as my hands are too shaky for that so the side fan is now firmly mounted with four Lian li thumb screws, we are like If it don't fit mod it til it does fit!

And it looks great too, here some pics  :)

    Here the two new holes neatly drilling after making good measures;
    Inner case:

    Outer case:

For the bottom holes, didn't need those thanks to that little ventilation grid, used the lowest part for the lower screws.

Here the side fan properly placed:

It gives nice coverage over all the cards, by mainly the 3dfx Voodoo3 3500 TV AGP gets good cooling this way:

And here  it's mounted with the four Lian Li thumb screws:

All good for that part, the other wires is from my BTO Plusdeck 2c Cassette Deck Tape Recorders/player/Convertor drive  :)

Which is this rare, yet super handy drive my dad gave me for this 3dfx retro build, something you don't see every day either  :)

Here the label on the drive:

And the Software for the Plusdeck 2c & Sweex Com Port to USB Convertor Module:

To make this device usable I used a Sweex Com Port to USB convertor module and that runs great.

It all installed without worries as the Win2K Pro Device manager shows:

    Here the Plusdeck 2C Software

    Sound Settings:

    Keyboard Controls:

    Configure Convert File Format:

Here the BTO Plusdeck 2C in the lower 5.25" bay, the NEC 1300A DVD -RW drive up tops:

Cables that I needed to store, I Shoved between these two drives, the Addtronics 6896A Entry level Server tower is very short compared to current case designs but I did manage some how, 10 years ago I could do much neater builds, nowadays building is very painful due to the heavy arthritis like pain attacks I get 34/7 and yeah kind of miss my old building skills tbh.

And here the entire system with specs:

Well great news, major thanks to my friend SWZSSR for finding me this Creative labs Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro!!!!

just fantastic this! He bought it and I will buy it off him for the same good deal he got it for , this will make  my 3dfx Retro game PC complete!
My friend will clean it and make me better high res shots and pack it in safely to get it shipped to me after I paid him, in a few days or weeks time, we both don't have to rush things.
We help each other this way just super cool to know people like this

Yes old friend, I am gonna take this place back to memory lane about 18 to 20 years back in time and build the best suitable 3dfx gaming PC with top tier parts from that era
But I am getting there slowly though, once I get more parts in I'll post them and shoot some videos of it all in action as well

Hereby I just want to thank everyone for their kind and caring replies, as I always loved the EVGA forums for that

Also got some nice 80's music tapes which I grabbed cheap from ebay today for this 3dfx system as well

The greatest Hits from 1986 2 Cassette! New great mint condition from 1986!
    https://www.ebay.ie/itm/T...ONDITION/223618629782?

So yeah I'm gonna bring the 1980's back in style to this 3dfx Retro Gaming & Multimedia PC
If going retro may as well do it right, right!

Here something lovely my friend SWZSSR helped me obtain in Adelaide, South Australia, which he will ship to me for my 3dfx Retro Gaming & Music PC Sveta 2002, photo's made by SWZSSR also btw

    Creative Labs Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro Rev.A 2703 ( Week 27 - Year 2003 )

    Remote & IO Drive Cable:

All gold plated in & outputs all full size headphone connectors as well:

With this external IO Drive from this rear side I can also connect my 1995 Roland E-14 Keyboard via the midi ports and use the Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro's Synthesizer for example:

    Card top:

    Card rear:

Here a close up of the parts of the card it's self:

Pins at the rear is for the Joystick gameport:

Here the Audigy 2 ZS Audio Processing Unit:

The flat connector is for the extension cable that connects to the external IO Drive it's also connected via Fire Wire 1394 as well from card to external IO Drive:

    SB number is SB0360 that being it's an authentic Creative Labs Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS platinum Pro, SB0350 are Audigy 2 ZS Platinum's and lower, the Platinum Pro was the only Audigy 2 ZS with a separate number;
    That being SB0360:

Also made in Malaysia and not China , or Singapore which was alsoa country many Creative boards were made at the time.

    PCB date reads 2703 meaning it's from Week 27 - Year 2003:

And there ya have it, more to come once I get this card here and built in the system, so much more to come my friends

    Rock on
