I've been attempting to manually set the fan speed with both the 4.4.0 and 4.8.0 versions but the fan simply won't adjust to my manual settings or fan curves.  Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

    We have seen where windows will block the control for the fans and the Controlled Folder Access may need to be turned off or Precision X1 would have to be added to the app list of safe/allowed apps. You can disable it with the steps below and the Microsoft guide for it is here. I apologize for any inconvenience.
     
      Select Start  > Settings  > Update & Security  > Windows Security > Virus & threat protection.
      Under Virus & threat protection settings, select Manage settings.
      Under Controlled folder access, select Manage Controlled folder access.
      Switch the Controlled folder access setting to On or Off.

    Unfortunately that didn't seem to do it.  I tried both off and on with EVGA Precision being exempt.

    Try Precision XOC due to the age of the GTX 580 however the card would not be able to use all of the functionality of Precision XOC and you can control it with the earlier Precision X as well.
