Yes, I know it isn't recommended. Yes, I know it voids warranty. *spoiler alert* I've already voided mine with the Galax bios.

Half a year ago, I read somewhere that the various bios for custom pcbs would not work on reference cards. Now I'm seeing people talking about installing XOC bios on their reference cards. I don't want to go down the XOC road, but I'd love to try that 520 watt bios. It still has protections on it, so I can't fumble and punch too much voltage into my card, or fry it with heat when I'm not paying attention.

The reason I ask is because my watercooled EVGA XC Gaming on the 380 watt bios, runs all day @ 2,100, with a top temp of 54 degrees after the temp levels out in Furmark. It handles a 1,400 memory offset just fine. It actually handled 1,500 fine, but I didn't see any improvements in benchmark scores, so I dropped it back down. I've never manually overclocked the chip or the voltage, I just let OC scanner pick what's best, and it reported that my power limit was the defining factor in my OC. That bargain 2080 ti managed a respectable 10,351 in Port Royal, and now I want to see if it can do better. :D

What voltage are you running at? Max voltage is 1.093v with out modifications. I only bring this up as I am going to guess to go much higher than 2100Mhz you are going to need to bring those temps down... My suggestion would be to max out voltage using MSI Afterburner and see if you can actually push clocks past 2100Mhz.

As far as putting the XOC BIOS on there... that would be a bad idea. It has been implied that using the BIOS on non Kingpin cards would brick the card.

Also don’t use Furmark... it’s not really useful.

I’m not sure if u can benefit with the kingpin bios, I have kingpin 2080 ti with basically the same temps as you and the most my card does is 2130 some times 3dmark says it’s 2165 but gaming it locks solid at 2115 and maybe when my basement is cold and pc is cooler I stay at 2130 gaming, I don’t know if 30 to 50

Well the RTX 2080 ti K|ngP|n graphics card was engineered to support 520 watts of power without a hitch. The reference RTX GeForce 2080 ti's are made with NVIDIA's specs in mind, so I would imagine that you won't have much luck.

I'm not talking about the XOC bios, every post I make on this subject, gets turned into an XOC discussion. LOL I'm talking about the mid range bios, with the 520 watt limit...
I've never touched the voltage slider, because I'm hitting the power limit in benchmarks, so touching the voltage will just hurt me...
Furmark is useful for getting the GPU hot...

The Kingpin 2080Ti has a Totally different Power design.

So if you try make sure you get it Recorded & you can watch the magic smoke escape over & over - if it even boots

I've already voided the warranty with the Galax 380 watt bios. I don't mess with the voltage, because I'm hitting the 380 watt power limit as it is, upping voltage will just make matters worse there. 54C is with Furmark pummeling it. On Witcher 3, max settings, i'm in the 40s. I know the card has more potential... I am pretty sure I lucked out with it, especially the memory.. The VRM can handle the 520 watts just fine....

So are these guys claiming to have the XOC variant on their reference cards, outright lying?

FTW3 card will not work with KPE BIOS because different VRM design.

I have no idea how a stock "reference" 2080Ti would even approach the use of 520W BIOS & @ what kind of temps

However, KPE RTX 2080 Ti designed in a way that does not require any additional power limit modifications or thermal protection removal mods. You don’t need to solder anything on the card to enjoy LN2 benchmarking with KPE. That is what this card is all about. It can overcome the power limit or any thermal limit with a proper BIOS. It is 100% designed to run at full LN2 speed without even touching the soldering iron.
Cards overclocked with LN2 and running 2500+ MHz, can take some serious power. Ensure that the PSU is at least 1500W and adequate for the job. Typical middle range 1200-1600W 80Plus Gold rated PSU should do the job well. For extreme overclocking we highly recommend running the system (CPU, peripherals, fans, motherboard) from one PSU and the VGA card from a separate second PSU with at least 90 A of current available on +12V rail.

I suspect if the Kingpin can handle the 520 watt bios with it's block, and 280mm AIO, my 560mm rad with 8 fans can handle the heat.

I'm not sure if these guys are full of pooh or not, and if they are being honest, how they managed to get it to work.

I was reading his guide earlier today.

I know my little XC wouldn't utilize the whole 520 watts, but I suspect it could use more than 380. ;)

Hey, it made 78th place in the Port Royal HOF for single GPU, you can't blame me for wanting to try for a better rank..

The PCB may be the actual Achillie's heel .... I'm guessing --> as it is above my pay grade.  Those 3x 8-pin power sockets on th KP are there for a reason

Yep 360-380 W --> OK, not burning it down - its the 144% that make make it smoke - outside of LN2 cooling

The Volts required would make sub-zero & hard mods required ... hack Boost 4.0

    Congrats on your score

Time to move it into a super cooled bench area .... & crank the AC to Frosty ... see what it will do

    Thanks.

Remember that the non LN2 bios has heat protection, and won't go over the standard Nvidia voltage limit, it just bumps the power limit to 520 watts, and cranks up the fans. That is why I'm interested in that one, it'd protect me from doing something stupid.... KP himself stated that his 280mm aoi is good enough for that one.

Also, the only reason I made it into the HOF is because I was watching Joe Stepongzi struggle to complete a run with his KP on LN2. I wanted to yank his chain by completing a run, because even if my score was pathetic, it would still be better than 0. So I dwnloaded Port Royal quick like, ran the benchmark, and that first score is the best I've achieved so far...

If you can't keep the card in the 30c range, I wouldn't worry about trying to increase the power limit.

Mid 50c is high for a water cooled card even on a power virus like Furmark.

Then I'll have to try repasting the block.. It's a hydrocopper, and the radiator/fan setup is way overkill.

Repasting will help a little. Radiator/Fan overkill won’t help much at all, it will just delay when the water gets to max temps.

I am running my Titan Xp’s In parallel, with two 480’s and a 360 rad... I promise it isn’t actually overkill as it didn’t change the max temp the cards got up to, just how long it took to get there.

Which case did you manage to fit 2x 480 and a 360 in?

@OP I heard the Galax bios is better on the reference than the KPE XOC anyway. Suggest not flashing KPE XOC on ref...

I didn’t just fit 2x 480 + 1x 360 in the case. That was just the GPU loop.

I have 4x480 and 1x360, with two 480’s dedicated to the CPU monoblock as well as two 1300g2 power supplies set comfortably behind the motherboard

It’s the caselabs TH10A. The case is massive and building in it is great, until it has to be moved.
