So I posted this in the software forum but got no response so I'll try over here... Is there a way to change the upper limit for cpu temperature in flow control? I don't need my fans at maximum when the processor is at 60c. An overclocked 9th gen processor is over 60c all the time... The "coolant temp" fan curve is useless... I don't even know why they bothered with that.  Any help would be appreciated...

    Welcome to the Forums

I'm not sure why your software settings are not working

You could plug the fans in to the MB directly - use the MB / CPU Temp to control them

What OS - with details ?

Which version of the software ?

We need & like Rig details

I thought about the motherboard route but that would require a splitter I'd need to pick up and tearing apart the top of my build (mini-ITX it's tight in there). The software is working fine, I believe, but I can't grab the upper limit "dot" on the fan curve at 60c.

Yes CLC is setup as intake with Cougar Fans and blower card setup as exhaust.  See pic.

Yeah that's where the image came from.  The "custom fan curve" is locked at 60c to 100% fans. None of the points will allow me to set a fan speed lower than 100% past 60c.

I'm running ver 2.08 on my AIO Folding Rig in my signature

Did you try double clicking said marker ?

You Must make all lower changes, from left to right --> (you can not go below the previous set point)
(if I remember correctly - been months since I changed mine)

    Might want to try 2.08

I do not see the picture in Post #4

    My CPU is 45 -53 C & I never noticed this before

Rough :(  My temps are fine at idle but under load I'm above 60c here and there. I hit 95c when running prime95 at 5.0ghz and, yeah, I needed 100% fans there lol.

I don't really understand why the decision was made to do that.  I can see a minimum to prevent damaging the fans but you should be able to set the upper limits to whatever you want.

Seems like a "Bug" more than a "Design Feature"

I'll bring it up to the person that may be able to see if/when the next rev of the software - this can be addresses

I would guess most of us just use the water temp curve and have pump at 90  or 100 percent

can't you still get almost of what you want as a work around just using the water curve ?

I don't think the early version of this software even had CPU temp ?

Re: Flow Control - Max Fan Speed at 60C 2019/02/26 20:55:25 (permalink)
The coolant curve is literally pointless for two reasons.  1) There is a lot of lag from the temperature of the cpu to the temp of the coolant. Your cpu may be screaming at a 100c instantly but the coolant hasn't heated up yet. Thus your fans would still be sitting idle when you need to be cooling the coolant as quickly as possible.  2) The scale on the coolant curve doesn't make sense.  The coolant temp changes by single degrees not 10 degrees.  You'd never be able to set it accurately. If the scale were set at single digits it would be more useful but still pointless because of reason one.

Perhaps the EVGA engineers disagree but I couldn't come up with a reason why (and I'm an engineer).

Edit: My guess is this really didn't matter until the 9th gen Intel CPUs came out as previous generations of processors wouldn't get so hot. My 4790k overclocked wouldn't ever get over 65c.  I can get this 9600k at 95c pretty easily and I'm using Noctua 3000 rpm fans on the radiator.  Some reviews I've read haven't been able to keep the new 9th gens cool with AIOs (with an overclock). This is the same reason I replaced the stock fans with those beasts from Noctua. :)

I got same problem as my one!! I have change the PMW fans which is much better but....have a look my post #19 as no one say why about the fan full speed at 60'c.... It have been over years...

You still have  the thermal mass of the system and the water and pumps to handle start up CPU heat.
so there is conduction  and radiation cooling then convection with the fans kicking in.

MY first engineering job was to run 1000 amp at 600 volt  into a set of hockey puck size SILICON CONTROLLED RECTIFIER and air cool the system.  Thermodynamics was not covered in my engineering classes :-(    so a few $500 parts did bite the dust.

Hello Cool GTX and hi everyone,
are there any news regarding the 60°C lock issue ?

It's really uncool not to be free to choose the fan curve up to, let's say 80°C.

    Please help.

    Thanks.

Add another to the list who's pretty frustrated, err pissed about this.  I've had this cooler for a while but just started playing around with overclocking my 8086k and can run 5.0 on all cores really stable - but as soon as it ramps up the fans turn into leaf blowers - setting a hard 60C is really absurd.

I suppose at this point there's nothing we can do - I'm going to re-route the two radiator fans to my motherboard CPU plug, I just have to get a splitter to do it (cables aren't long enough).  Really (Deleted for Foul Language) as I'd like to use, you know, what I paid for!?!

I just wanted to add my support to OP, this is an issue that should not even exist and EVGA needs to fix. It should be a simple fix, and there is no reason for them to lock the top of the curve at 60C, no damage can be done until way after that. 90C is a good max.

Just to add another .02 to this - I added 2 more fans to my radiator, in push/pull config - delided and applied liquid metal to my 8086k and at 5.0Ghz on all cores I'm running at around 50C - under full load, so that's one way to fix the leaf blower!  I'm now actually running at 5.3Ghz (seems I got really lucky and got a great chip) at about 70-72C but even still with all 4 fans it's not really loud at all - I did wire the fans directly to the motherboard though so I could control them separately.

    Just some thoughts.

Can't change the top most fan speed either.  Is there a fix on the way for this?

I've been able to use Cheat Engine 7.0 and edit the values in the graph to allow the upper most user defined value to be 70C instead of 60C.  Unfortunately, I don't have very much experience with cheat engine so I haven't yet been able to make a script or even a code offset to be able to quickly redo this every time the computer starts up.  I have to manually edit it.

I might go poking around the Cheat Engine Forums to see if there's anyone around who can help out.  I dont have a lot of time lately to play around with stuff like this, but I bet there's someone with experience who could do this in a flash.

With a fan curve the way I want it, the computer is nice and quiet again.  No sudden jumps when a CPU core goes to 60C for a second!

Oh damn good try pal . Everyone got the same problem with fans went loud reach at 60c!! I have change very silent quiet fan which is much better of course left on Auto fans in my CLC software

I'll definitely post an update here if I get any farther and am able to make something that everyone can use.
