Hi,

Need a sanity check.  For the last couple of days 40 seconds after booting into Win10 pro on the x299 dark the PCIE leds turn off. I started looking into this because I was unable to match previous GPU and VRAM OC's on a custom bench loop where I have been doing some NVLINK testing with 2x RTX KPE?

So far I have tried the following:
-bios defaults
-different slots
-disabling pcie slots with dip switches
-removing px1
-DDUing drivers and reinstalling same and different versions 430.86 & 431.60
-removing PCIE 6 pin pwr gfx
-reseating both RTX KPE

Any idea's or suggestions?

CPU & socket pin contact ?

Dual 8-pin EPS Connector or power cords ?

Bad Aux PCIe power cord or socket to MB ?

Set to Default BIOS - save - then Clear CMOS ?

Corrupt BIOS ?

These LEDs ?  PE1 -PE6

Hi,
I reseated my 7980xe
  • changed PSU to another 1300G2 with different cables to 2x 8-pin EPS
  • Changed power cable - Aux PCIe power "cord"
  • set to default bios -save - clear cmos
  • moved bios switch to pos 2 and flashed 1.18 again
  • Switched from PCIE M.2 to SSD and a different OS WIN10pro to Win7 Pro
  • DDU'd all nvidia drivers and left them uninstalled.
Also yes I am referring to PCIE LED FOR PE1-PE6.

The behavior is after booting into OS and after 25-40 seconds elapse the PE1-PE6 LEDS turn off entirely.  It is not clear that the PE1-6 LEDS turning off is actually effecting the performance of the slots.

For example I have removed my RTX KPE's and put in an RTX 2080 which I can get to clock @ 2000mhz under load.  Very strange that with the LEDS off the slots appear to be functioning...

Why else would the LEDs stay on after POST? You like to remove devices or CPUs while system is running much? :)
I put a function there to turn-off diagnostic LEDs for PCIe slots 60 seconds after power on, as they finished their purpose after system is posted.

If you have question, please post in public forum. I do not reply PMs, so all in community can benefit the answer.

Sanity Checked! Thank you sir.
No of course I don't like removing components hot. Was troubleshooting another issue and then noticed that those LEDS were turning off at which point my hampster brain correlated the led function with the issue I was troubleshooting. Hence why I came to ask. Could not remember if the behavior you described as a function was static or new and related to my issues.

@Tin Your willingness to respond to my stupid questions is why EVGA and you are the best.

Also @Cool GTX  you are also a reason why evga is the best. Thanks for helping me troubleshoot this apparent non-issue.

So, looks like I have some more "homework" to do & I do not even have an X299 (those 44 PCie lane CPU prices ouch)

Is that PCIe LEDs  tidbit of information even listed in this guide ?    https://xdevs.com/guide/e299ocg/

@CoolGTX I read through the manual and the guide a couple times and did not find the tidbit or much detailed info about the functional behavior of the LEDS prior to reaching out on the forum. However I definitely could have missed it.
