https://www.pcmag.com/news/370252/minecraft-gets-jaw-dropping-ray-tracing-support Minecraft is the perfect gaming paradox. It's a stupidly-popular title, but with simple graphics that can run on practically any Windows machine, but supports the latest 3D graphics APIs such as DirectX 12. The title now adds another feather to its technical feature-set cap, with support for NVIDIA RTX real-time raytracing. RTX will now be used to render realistic light shafts using path-tracing, global illumination, shadows, ambient occlusion, and simple reflections. "Ray tracing sits at the center of what we think is next for Minecraft," said Saxs Persson, Franchise Creative Director of Minecraft at Microsoft. "RTX gives the Minecraft world a brand-new feel to it. In normal Minecraft, a block of gold just appears yellow, but with ray tracing turned on, you really get to see the specular highlight, you get to see the reflection, you can even see a mob reflected in it." A release date is not yet available but for Minecraft fans this must be exciting news since the super graphics package was dropped.

Its probably the most popular game in the World... which makes this a good thing. Unfortunately its not coming to the Java version of the game.

I would've agreed, but the demos look pretty nice. Even a game like Minecraft can really utilize real lightsources.
Have water, will cool.

It’s sold over 176 million potatoes then and millions of people eat potatoes daily... Minecraft is not a pretty game with the best graphics but gamers do like it.

Yes, and that is why there are more than one genre of video games out there.

I think the idea is to add really advanced lighting of ray-tracing to games that have little or no lighting effects, so the difference seen can be as drastic as possible, instead of ultra high end combo of non-raytracing lighting and shadows to ray tracing, which wouldn't be nearly as dramatic. Why do I feel like I just mansplained something? it does help to show that lighting is more powerful to look of a game than I once gave it credit for at least.

I have to agree. I don't play Minecraft but I understand why someone would enjoy it. The only downside I see to it was in the demo some of the scenes get really a lot darker with RTX on depending on the lighting in the room. Still though a major upgrade and something that will be only a minor issue that might change how people play slightly. I think what we could see from Microsoft is using NVIDIA to do the leg work on RTX upgrade and then they will port it over to DX12 and Xbox Project Scarlet and the PS5 then charge new prices for what will probably be a texture reskin and new lighting on consoles.

I think it's kind of disingenuous to assume the same people who enjoy/play Minecraft also have state-of-the-art systems w/ $ 1000.++ gaming cards to run this though ! The majority of the appeal of minecraft was it's low system requirements- so almost anyone could enjoy it. - RTX negates that...

Have you ever played Minecraft? It runs on Java... lol. I would not be so quick to think that just because someone plays Minecraft that they dont also have a high end PC. Also shader packs and texture packs have been a thing for a long time, that often push graphics to levels that some AAA games cant match.
