 Hey y'all,

I have my BIOS all set up and am getting ready to install win 10 (latest ver) and I have a quick question, what is tha M.2 called in the boot order? Is it Hard Disk, USB Hard Disk? I don't see a listing for SSD or M.2.

The M.2 is showing in the M.2 slot as my Samsung so I know it's ready to rock.

Stupid question I know, I just don't want to make any mistakes.

thanks

Is this an M.2 NVMe Drive?
Only NVMe M.2 Drives are supported on the Z390 Dark Motherboard.
Have Only the One NVMe M.2 Drive in PM1 and NO Other Drives, you can install them after the OS is Installed.
Review Page 52 in the Manual Support Manual for EVGA Z390 Dark (131-CS-E399)
    Disable CSM
Boot up and start the OS Install, Windows will see the Drive and then you will see it in the Bios.
I tested this so not sure why they say that a normal M.2 SATA Drive will work in the PM2 Slot.

    This never happened for me.
    8. If you are using an SSD connected to the motherboard’s M.2 slot, re-enter the BIOS/UEFI and go to "Advanced – Onboard Device Configuration," and set "M.2 Socket3" to "Enable."

Ok cool, I haven't set CSM yet so that's all I have left to do, what does that do if you don't mind me asking??

For Newer Hardware and Windows 10 it Disables "Compatibility Support Module" for Older Hardware.
Windows 10 a Fully Supported UEFI OS and why you need to set the Bios Boot to UEFI with NVMe M.2 Drives and Win10.
This includes your RTX Graphics Card.

Oh and yes it is an NVMe drive, it's the Samsung Evo 970 NVMe M.2.

I'm almost at my desktop!! lol man this thing is fast!! I have the CPU set to stock for now the ram is set to 3200 1.35v.

The 9900k was running a little hot in BIOS, 35c, hope that changes in windows. I have my EVGA closed loop water cooler attached to CPU fan 1 and set to PWM in BIOS. I hope that correct. My other cooler just had the 2 plugs and that sucker kept things nice an cool.

I was surprised to see my 9900KF boot up the first time @ 4700MHz with the Default Auto Setting.
You want to keep the CPU Fan Header set to 100% as well.

Ok now  the M.2 shows up as "Hard Disk (Windows Boot Manager)"

Seems to be working!! The motherboard even rearranged my boot order for me.....

Time to test the water cooler on that CPU!! I have the EVGA 280x 140mm, it has a 3 pin plug that both the fans plug into, according to BIOS I'm supposed to set a 3 pin fan to DC Mode instead of PWM.

    So DC modes 100%?

    I hope that's correct.

PS: Samsung Evo is running at about 39c after installing windows, that's not to shabby.

BTW, thanks for all your help, it's kind of you to take the time.

I can do 96% or SMART, it won't let me choose 100.. I don't think

And yeah, my 9900k defaults to 50 if I set it to manual mode...lol not ready for that!!

I would go DC 100% then on the CPU Fan Header.

Sounds good, I think I have enough to be dangerous now, THANKS MAN!!

I'm copying all my data back now and MAN is this thing fast!!

I'm gonna do some stress testing at stock, check out the RAM, temps and such, then...gonna OC

I'm gonna start at 4.7, 1.075, see how that does first!!
