We have another PG challenge. it is Jul 15 20:17:00 to Jul 20 20:17:00 (UTC) The sub-project is Proth Prime Search (PPS). These are CPU LLR tasks. They are fairly short tasks. As always watch your overclocks and temps. I would say there is a good chance to find a prime in this challenge. AVX or better will do well. Older CPU can be sped up using multithread (MT) The PG challenge thread is here. http://www.primegrid.com/forum_thread.php?id=8635 From PG ATTENTION: The primality program LLR is CPU intensive; so, it is vital to have a stable system with good cooling. It does not tolerate "even the slightest of errors." Please see this post for more details on how you can "stress test" your computer. Tasks on one CPU core will take 1 hour on a fast/newer computers and 4 hours on slower/older computers. If your computer is highly overclocked, please consider "stress testing" it. Sieving is an excellent alternative for computers that are not able to LLR. :)
Highly overclocked Haswell, Broadwell, Skylake, Kaby Lake or Coffee Lake (i.e., Intel Core i7, i5, and i3 -4xxx or better) computers running the application will see fastest times. Note that PPS is running the latest AVX-512 version of LLR which takes full advantage of the features of these newer CPUs. It's faster than the previous LLR app and draws more power and produces more heat. If you have certain recent Intel Skylake-X and Xeon CPUs, especially if it's overclocked or has overclocked memory, and haven't run the new AVX-512 LLR before, we strongly suggest running it before the challenge while you are monitoring the temperatures.
Please, please, please make sure your machines are up to the task.

There is a very good chance of finding primes running PPS tasks this challenge. I am sure the team will find several. They are small primes, little bigger than Sophie German primes. PPS around 460,000 digits vs 390k Sophie. I found 3 of them the last TDP, and Bcav found quite a few more than I did. Not if a prime is found, but who will be the 1st to find one...

Just built a new dev rig with an i7-9800x in it. Chose the i7-9800x vs i9-9900k because it has avx-512. Chews through LLR units while making a great foot warmer...

Very nice, cingrats! One of those is on my future upgrade list. I upgrade in the Fall. Waiting to see how the AMD CPUs do with AVX and all Really would like an AMD 3xxx CPU and a Radeon RVII GPU for the DP processing. I'll have to see how things shake out. With the competition, prices should come down some, I hope.

Note the odd start time. 4:17PM EDST monday the 15th. (Double check my time, I believe I am right) Remember only tasks DL after the start and turned in before the end count. So no bunkering. Tasks will be given credit when turned in. If the task is not valid the points will be deducted. Run a few tasks and check your temps, LLR tasks can make CPUs run warm with the AVX load. Good luck everyone, hope you find some primes!

Also if looking for a Prime during this Event do not Bunker Tasks. Keep your Cache to 0 and 0 in the Client Tool and Resource share 0%

Yes indeed. Just remember if so inclined, bunker AFTER the start of the challenge. Anything DL before will not count. These tasks are so short, and such a good chance of finding a prime, why bother to bunker. Not like anyone is fooled by it. I never think, I am safe, no one is close behind me so I will slack off.

Congratulations! Our records indicate that a computer registered by you has found a unique prime number. This computer is running BOINC, is attached to the PrimeGrid project, and is assigned to the Proth Prime Search. What makes this prime unique is that it's large enough to enter the Top 5000 List in Chris Caldwell's The Largest Known Primes Database. Since you have auto-reporting selected, the following prime was submitted on your behalf: Added 126656 : 701*2^2750267+1 (827916 digits) 701*2^2750267+1 is a Factor of xGF(2750266,7,4)!!!! (10616.880000 seconds) GFN testing completed This prime was found on this workunit which will automatically show as a prime result after verification by the Largest Known Primes Database. On my Rig that lost the Water Pump / Fan Controller yesterday, glad I has a spare. Why I do not keep tasks in the Cache waiting to run. Single Task -v- MT Tasks as well.
