Hello all

I recently sold my radeon VII since it was more an inpulse buy than anything else, so putting the money and  extra to get something better since i only game so Nvida is the best way to go ( which i should have done long time ago)

I have been waiting for the 2080 Super for a few weeks now, especially the EVGA FTW3, mainly because i like the triple fan, cooling and overlocking potential and also Rgb's of course and it would be one of the best cards to get along side the Msi Trio

but was just browsing around checking prices of the 2080Ti in the UK and the cheapest EVGA one is the black edition which is just over 1k + few pounds. but after reading about it and watching videos it seems like the thermals and overclocking potential isn't that good due to it being the cheapest

and i think the 2080 super FTW might be around £800 -/+?

I  game at 3440x1440 100hz, obviously the best card for that would be the 2080Ti in all cases, but if it was to get a 2080Ti it would have been the FTW3 version because like i said i like triple fans, cooling, overclocking room etc, so not sure i would be happy with the cheapest one knowing there is better or mabye im just settled on the best of the 2080 super

this is my first Nvida card moving from AMD so my questions are :

Does anyone have the 2080Ti EVGA black edition, what sort of temps do you get and overclocking room do you have?

is the card the cheapest card for a reason?

Just my $.02 worth.  The 2080 TI has many more cuda cores and 11 GB of GDDR6.  The 2080 Super is a nice card...but the 2080 TI will always beat it.  I have the 2080 TI Black XC and the card stays pretty cool.  Here in Texas, days are now in the high 90's to 100 degrees and the card will top out around 72C.  I use MSI Afterburner with a good fan curve and the card stays pretty cool.  The 2080 TI Black (2181) is a nice card.  Check around the forum and you will see a pretty high degree of satisfaction.  Hope this sheds some light...

Whats the difference between the black version and the XC version? ( this one is £50 more expensive) , i would also be considering that one as well

Open the product page & select "Compare" for each product - Then click on the word "Compare" ---> to see both cards & specs side by side

difference is usually the thickness of the cooler &/ or clock speeds , plus sometimes ICX tech or not on occasion.

XC Black is a binned chip (300A) but it has a very low factory OC.

If you can get a good deal on the 2080 Ti XC Gaming (like $1000-1100 USD vs. $1199 msrp) and its fresh stock from EVGA, that's the way to go.  I got one recently, it runs pretty cool and quiet, has Samsung memory, mild OC no problem on the stock cooler. The binned cards are just plain better chips and more solid overall, worth a few more bucks.  The Ultra version is great too with its thicker cooler.

We will assume there will be a 2080 SUPER FTW3 as the other tiers have them so with that said, if you want bling, FTW3 is the card to have.  If you want raw performance for 1440p (144hz?), you will want the 2080 Ti hands down.  Think of it as picking up a car with a V6 or V8.

I have the 2080 Ti Black on a 1440p 144hz and it trucks along.  A few issues that were fixed along the way but all is currently well.  Very powerful GPU for 1440p and 4K.

As for temps, I couldn't be fair since mine are under custom liquid loop.  I get 44c-46c on average on full load on mine.  I could possibly get it down a few degrees if I tinker with it but other than that, depending what your ambient room temp and case air flow is in your environment, you could get 70c-80c+ in temps.  If you don't approve of those kind of temps, you could always add a 2080 Ti Hybrid Cooler that will bring your temps down roughly 20c, closer to the custom level.  Again, it all depends but the cooler the air intake to the rad is, the cooler the outcome.
