https://fortune.com/2019/07/16/intel-ceo-bob-swan Intel was too ambitious in trying to create a better class of processors in recent years, leading to major delays that have created an opportunity for competitors to grab more of the market for PC chips, the company's new CEO acknowledged on Tuesday. Bob Swan, in one of his first public appearances since being named permanent CEO in January, said Intel wanted to improve its manufacturing process to speed the performance of its chips, as it had done successfully many times previously. But the improvement, first expected to debut as early as 2015 , is now planned for the second half of this year. Despite efforts to improve operations Intel's stock has risen only nominally.

Is this reverse psychology? Unless they're super secret on some project, not sure what the heck he's talking about. It's more like AMD has been super aggressive which actually resulted in true performance boosts over several series. Who is feeding the Intel CEO his information to believe what he said? I guess some companies are an echo chamber of their own greatness, but the reality distortion field is turned up to 11 here. Context is important. I do believe Intel is doing some disruptive development in the discreet GPU sector, but CPU? No way. When you're the status quo, you have to be truly self-destructive to believe that and push that as a public message. If they're talking about lithography shrinks, Intel working on that could hardly be a logical reasoning for them slipping on their market share and competitive edge, because everyone else is working on that too.

Maybe they got quantum computing up their sleeve? (Trying to be optimistic here... )

sounds better than the New CEO saying - Intel was too complacent with their technology lead on AMD

If Ryzen hadn't happened we would still be stuck waiting for 10nm from Intel, it would just be in the 4 core 8 thread variant. So in a way I guess it's accurate.

Nope. True quantum computing still appears to be theoretically impossible. No one is sure. If a true quantum computer is ever created, it will be extremely regulated and treated similar to nuclear weapons. The entire backbone of our online life would need to be reengineered before a true quantum computer would be treated like anything other than a weapon. Until then, all we will have is quantum annealers, which are hardly quantum computers.

You're kinda right. Before we get our hands on them, the gov., military, etc will have it first because the average joe can't have a blazing fast machine that can be weaponized and used against anyone and anything.
