Hi,

After some "reno" in our house, I could not find or am unsure what AC cable goes with the EVGA 1000P2. The PSU says 15A, but all the cables I can see are rated for 10A only. However, I do not think I am drawing more than 10A anyway. If I take the maximum wattage from the PSU, I get 1000W / 240V ( I am in Australia ) = 4.16A ... maximum.

I also read the link in this forum on how to determine what wire gauge to use, but the link disappears after I post. It is at /support/faq/afmmain.aspx?faqid=59690

Now for the wire gauge .. where in the AC cable can you read the wire gauge ? Are there some links to show pictures where you can read the wire gauge on an AC cable that plugs into a PSU ( All I could find where tables telling you what gauge to use, but not where on the cable to find out where gauge is ) ?

I can see the numbers " 18 - 14 " just above the numbers "10A - 250V" on the part of the AC cable that plugs into the PSU. Is that the wire gauge ? And are AC PSU cables using AWG or SWG ??

16 AWG is fine for that PSU, Myself I use 14 AWG on all my PSU 850 and up.
Tripp Lite Heavy Duty Computer Power Cord, 15A, 14AWG (NEMA 5-15P to IEC-320-C13), 3-ft. (P007-003)

The cable that came with mine shows 13 AMP on the Plug End (PSU Side) and 16 AWG on the Cable
You look down the Cable to find the Wire Gage.

Thanks. My problem is, I do not know how to read the numbers on the AC cable to determine the wire's gauge ( and whether it is AWG or SWG ). I cannot find a picture of how to read them, and if they are reliable.

American Wire Gauge (AWG) is a system of numerical wire sizes that start with the lowest numbers (6/0) for the largest sizes.
The gauge sizes are each 26% apart based on the cross sectional area.
AWG is also known as Brown & Sharpe Gage. SWG = Standard or Sterling Wire Gauge, a British wire measurement system.
    http://www.differencebetween.net/technology/career-and-certifications/difference-between-swg-and-awg/
    Summary:
1.SWG is a British standard while AWG is an American standard
2.SWG wires of the same gauge are bigger than AWG wires
3.AWG is still widely used in electrical wires while not so much SWG

Thanks for that. Informative. Now to determine the actual gauge of the various AC cables that I have floating around.
The closest one that I can find is this question from the site  diy.stackexchange.com.

Add https colon slash slash diy.stackexchange.com to the link below:
    questions/78847/how-do-i-read-the-markings-printed-on-the-outside-of-electric-wires

Sampling one of the AC cables, I can barely read them out as they are black on black:

    I-SHENG SGIS <VDE> KEMA-KEUR  +S+S+S <6VE> CEBEC 809      NF-USE 1345 IEMMEQU HO5VV-F 3G 0.75mm2 60227 IEC 53 RVV 300/500V <<< A003083   3ASL/75 4V-75 V-75(75 C) 250/440V ORDINARY DUTY QAA228 -LF- CE

Where in the above marking is the AWG ??

You might need to ask a local electrician or a electronic store.
It makes no sense to me.

Thanks. I think I have figured it out.

    Based on this:

    www.ishengcable.com/product_view_621.html

    3ASL/75 3G 0.75mm²

    .. and this:

    www.multicable.com/resources/reference-data/cross-reference-awg-to-mm2/

    So it is 18AWG.

I would not use that cable on a Power Supply.
Monitor it would be fine to use.

Even though I am not using more than 6A and it is 18AWG ?

On the EVGA 1000P2 I would not use an 18 AWG Cable, 16 AWG or below.
Run it for awhile and see how warm the Cable gets at both ends.

Above a 600 watt PSU, you push the limits of an 18 AWG power cord and can expect the cord to heat up and possibly malfunction. 16 AWG would be perfect.
