I thought this video was good for explaining why the ray tracing in Quake 2 was so impressive. Really nice that it takes the time to show the shadows in the game and explain how they work. Also it seems JayTwoCents is using an EVGA Z10 keyboard in the video.

I have read forums that state the game is nearly unplayable due to massive input lag issues ??     Anyone tried it yet here to comment on that..?

It didn’t really seem laggy to me but I did notice the fact that it doesn’t really have the best aiming but that is how the game was. Also the full ray tracing takes a lot of processing power. It really shows how much processing power it takes to render it that it can be unplayable at 1440p on a 1080Ti.

People are saying if you really want to see Quake II  looking good & updated to try this mod instead - runs on any cards , and supposedly is pretty good.   I may get a chance to try this mod this weekend... ->

It would probably crush the 2080Ti to try to run Quake 3 with RTX enabled at the level Quake 2 has it. Though I can’t really say for sure since lighting is based off of pixels and it might be just as easy to render the light for Quake 3 as Quake 2.

Since when did anyone that plays quake care about how pretty the game looks. The first thing competitive players will do is crank the graphics down to have smoother gameplay.

I tried it out. Did not have any input lag; running a water cooled RTX 2080 Ti with a G-Sync monitor though.

I have to agree that the game didn't feel any lag or at least more then normal lag for the game. The game does have a bit of a different feel then a modern shooter though.

Me too, I ran a quake2 WOD mod(Weapons Of Destruction) server for a couple years. Had a ton of fun.

If you disable steam over lay and g sync, it will fix any input lag issues and stutter.

i think it is very cool we got this demo to showcase what ray tracing can do to an old game. imagine what devs can do from now on.
