Earlier this year, a team inside NVIDIA took Quake II and ran it through its ray tracing system to see if the 1997 title could be gussied up. The resulting tech demo, shown off at GDC, received more than half a million YouTube videos and more than a little hype. From June 6th, the company will allow people to play a limited version of the game — Quake II RTX — for free.

It does make the game look a lot better. I am not sure I would play the whole game again but I do have the cd sitting around so I might see how it looks.

I would wonder about that since the game wasn’t optimized for todays hardware and adding support for ray tracing to an old game could cause a major hit.

I think I read somewhere  that it is only the first 3 levels.... for free. ,...but owners of it previously it works in the entire game for them.

Funny thing is that this ancient game in RTX will probably help sell more new RTX cards than the few junk games currently doing it...

    Bogus!

Should of just given the game out for free, not just limited demo.  Really want to push Raytracing, lets not go the way Nvidia did with G-sync, sometimes large companies dont learn....

Well I definitely will be downloading this. Who doesn't own Quake II 20+ years later?
