Home News Gaming Metro Exodus Epic Store exclusivity deal made lots of moneyTHQ Nordic made lots of money from its Metro Exodus exclusivity deal, and future Deep Silver games should follow suit By: Derek Strickland | Gaming News | Posted: 22 hours, 18 mins ago Comment | Email to a Friend | Font Size: AA Expect to see more of Deep Silver's biggest games get timed exclusivity on the Epic Games Store.     Metro Exodus' exclusivity deal on the Epic Store worked out quite well for THQ Nordic. The game not only helped skyrocket earnings by over 500% last year, but was the single best-selling title on all platforms and the biggest release in THQ Nordic's history. But how much of that revenue came from the Epic Store? Most of it, actually.   Previous comments from THQ Nordic's Lars Wingefors said Metro Exodus sold best on consoles and led gamers to believe the Epic deal backfired. That isn't the case. Console still reigns because of combined physical and digital sales, but THQ Nordic actually made more from Metro Exodus on Epic's PC store than it did from digital console revenues.

The Epic Store's favorable impact on earnings should cement the store as a viable marketplace for the publisher. Not only does THQ Nordic get to keep 88% of all revenues of games sold on the store, but it must have sold quite a few copies to beat out the combined digital might of the PS4 and Xbox One market (especially given the PS4's massive 98.6 million install base).   Deep Silver's future games should be exclusive to the Epic Store on PC. This will likely include hits like Dead Island 2, which may actually release in 2019, as well as Volition's new top secret AAA project that's probably Saint's Row V.

I bet that coming free with all RTX games for a while after launch also helped get people to get it off the Epic store. While it was free to the customer NVIDIA has deals and THq Nordic does get some backend off it that probably helped inflate the numbers a bit.

The good news from this is the Metro series that people thought would suffer from an Epic exclusive doesn't look to have been hurt and the sales will help keep the focus on PC gaming in a world in which a lot of series seem to be centered on consoles.

The facts will set you free, for one. A lot of the misconceptions are explained clearly about the tracking.js JavaScript file (revenue sharing statistics) and the Steam references (for importing your Steam friend list).

Next, I have about eight launchers and they all do what they're intended to do - play the game. Features are secondary and aren't deal breakers. Never will gamers impact how I purchase games.

All I mean is that some people get critical over issues they've read up on the web about companies like Epic. It's the very least of your worries. Even if you tuned out of one service, what's to say other means aren't tracking you, like you said. Hence, going off the grid is the best way to avoid all that. I'm not in the least bit concerned with any sort of tracking/spying.

Amy company that limits their sells, just to gain a smaller profit margin, doesnt get my cash, Epic is worse than EA in my own opinion...

Except their revenue split benefits the developers with a smaller cut going to Epic. And, in most cases, they have the better price too. I've seen the same game selling elsewhere for ten dollars more.
